Mined by the Compass Coal Company, an affiliate of Clinchfield Coal Corporation at their Compass Mine located at Philippi, Barbour County, WVA. The Pittsburgh Seam was Drift mined. Shipping was via B&O RR. Major use was for steam. The sales agent was the Pittston Clinchfield Coal Sales Corp.
It is always wise to have a compass, map or gps on long or short trips. No matter how experienced you are or how well you know the area, when the fog comes it's like another world shows up, and you never know when shit weather arrives or fog descends upon you ..

Compass Song is an app-based public sound artwork inspired by Times Square’s rich history as the Crossroads of the World. Artists Mendi + Keith Obadike have stretched fragments of music, poetry, stories, and myths across the pedestrian plazas and surrounding blocks in all four cardinal directions, for visitors to discover whether they’re exploring the neighborhood or simply on their way to work. Compass Plant (Silphium laciniatum L.) is related to Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum), but the leaves of compass plant are deeply indented around the veins. The leaves on the flower stalk are not all reduced to bracts.
