Here is another version of Brooks' BCKK.

Next to the BCKK other components of this rig are:

- Ricoh GR digital

- Prinzler's 433TxRx

- GentSwitches and a Gent1V5

- BW video link

- Breuer 360 servo

- Ricoh CA-1 remote cable

The customer wanted an electronic shutter release but the Ricoh has no IR-sensor nor a switchable input. But a remote control cable is an accessory. This unit has a lot of electronics inside and is powered by its own 1.5 V AAA battery.

I modified this Ricoh part by taking out its internals and have it triggered by the 433TxRx remote control through 2 electronic switches.

To get rid of the 1.5 V battery a 4.8 to 1.5 V converter was added. All these parts are in the black box that is fitted on the tilt frame behind the camera.

The client wanted to have the rig to fit in a very strong and watertight Storm Case iM2075. This required a very compact version of the BCKK and so some tricks had to come in:

- the legs were shortened by 6 cm.

- the tilt axis is moved upwards by mounting the tilt servo upside down and drilling an extra hole in the left leg of the main frame.

- this caused contact between the black box and the pan servo. This problem was solved by adding two 5 mm spacers between the main frame and the gear bracket. Now the top of this bracket is at the same level as the battery pack.

Every time I build a BCKK I'm surprised by its possiblities.

This adapter allows me to use a IDE disk or CF card on my Sinclair +3.

I've had to install 2 new EPROMS in the machine for it to support IDE devices.

CF card is 128Mb, but as the interface in only 8 bit, only half of the cards capacity is available. Still, 64Mb is a lot of storage for a spectrum!

This is what the trash compactor at my apartment building looks like after the Thanksgiving holiday. For some reason, the other residents have problems getting it to work, so they leave their trash stacked up here. I've 'fixed' the compactor and cleared the area before, but I just couldn't bring myself to be the trashperson again. Shame on me.

Compact 12x Optical Zoom FinePix S1500 Extends Feature Set

D-SLR-Style Camera Sports Dual Image Stabilization and Automatic Scene Recognition

Valhalla, NY, February 17, 2009– FUJIFILM U.S.A. Inc. today announced the successor to the wildly popular FinePix S1000 with the introduction of the FinePix S1500.

Ideal for advanced amateur photographers who are looking for an affordable, SLR-styled digital camera, the 10-MegaPixel FinePix S1500is wrapped with an eye-catching black casing and has a Fujinon 12x optical zoom (33mm-396mm equivalent) offering great range and flexibility. Building on the legacy of Fujifilm’s S-series digital cameras, the FinePix S1500 includes Fujifilm’s Dual Image Stabilization and SR Auto (Automatic Scene Recognition).

Automatic Scene Recognition

SR Auto (Automatic Scene Recognition) enables the FinePix S1500to intelligently recognize six types of scenes automatically. For each picture taken in this mode, the S1500 will optimize the ideal exposure, focus, white balance and ISO for the scene to ensure the best quality picture is captured with ease.

Dual Image Stabilization

Dual Image Stabilization is a marriage of mechanical sensor shift stabilization, to steady the photographer’s hand, and Fujifilm’s Picture Stabilization Technology, which uses fast shutter speeds with ISO high sensitivity, to prevent virtually all types of image blur. As a result, an increase in clarity and sharpness is achieved, even in low lighting conditions.

Rounding out the FinePix S1500 powerful feature set is a large 2.7″ high-resolution (230k dots) LCD, electronic viewfinder (EVF) and ISO levels of up to ISO 1600 at full resolution.

Fujifilm’s FinePix S1500 also offers the following useful features:

Full Manual Photographic Control: Photo enthusiasts and advanced photographers have total control with manual adjustment options for various camera settings including resolution, ISO, aperture, shutter speed and more.

Face Detection with Automatic Red Eye Removal: Face Detection operates by identifying and prioritizing faces in a framed scene, and then adjusting the focus and exposure accordingly to ensure the sharpness and clarity of human subjects in the picture, regardless of background. After a shot is captured, each detected face is instantly checked for red eye. If it is found, it is corrected automatically, saving the time-consuming process of fixing it later.

Instant Zoom: Instant Zoom makes it easy to frame and compose shots with moving subjects at high zoom settings. A selectable frame on the LCD screen lets you bracket and track the subject in standard wide view. When the shutter is released, Instant Zoom boosts the zoom ratio and captures only the enlarged area as a full-sized image, keeping the subject in the frame.

Continuous High Speed Shooting mode: This mode allows moving subjects to be captured by shooting high-speed shots of up to 15 frames at 7.5 fps at 2MP and six frames at 3.3 fps at 5MP.

Panoramic Shooting mode: Users can capture, combine and save a maximum of three consecutive shots at 3MP resolution each as a panoramic picture.

Movie Recording: VGA quality at 30 frames per second with sound.

14 Pre-programmed Scene Modes: The FinePix S1500 features 14 pre-programmed scene modes that offer a one-touch setting for almost any situation.

SD / SD-HC Compatible slot: A single media slot that accepts SD/SD-HC media cards.

Operates on 4xAA Batteries: The ultimate in convenience and accessibility, using AA batteries means in a pinch, more batteries are just moments away. Four x AA alkaline battery power delivers 300 shots and up to 700 shots using lithium AA battery.

“Fujifilm’s FinePix S1500fd offers advanced amateur photographers an affordable, SLR-styled digital camera,” said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc. “Sporting a Fujinon 12x Optical Zoom for greater range and flexibility and Automatic Scene Recognition, the FinePix S1500 offers its user an efficient, feature-rich digital camera making it easy to capture amazing images.”

The FinePix S1500fd will debut in March 2009 at a retail price of $249.95.

Rubbish compactor

bigbellysolar.com/solutions/compactor/

The BigBelly Solar Compactor is a patented compacting trash receptacle that is completely self-powered by solar energy. The unit takes up as much space as the “footprint” of an ordinary trash can —but its capacity is five times greater. Increased capacity reduces collection trips and can cut operating costs, fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. Reduced collections yield deep cost efficiencies by freeing up valuable worker time, allowing managers to re-deploy staff to other important tasks, and reduce the costs and pollution of unnecessary vehicle trips.

As trash collects inside a BigBelly solar compactor, an internal “eye” senses when the bin is filling and automatically triggers a compaction cycle. As the compacted trash reaches the level where pick up is desirable after multiple compactions, a message is sent through the CLEAN notification system, essentially “calling home” to say “I’m full – time to empty me”. Without wasting trips down a street or to a curb for units that do not yet require pick up, crews have the ability to know exactly when BigBelly solar compactors are ready for pick up – or still have much more capacity. Externally visible LED indicator lights also communicate bin fullness information to crews.

The Minox GT-E came out in 1988. It has an 35 mm f2.8 MC Minoxar lens, 2x exposure compensation switch, battery check button and self-timer switch. I've had a few of the Minox 35 models over the years and the GT-E is my favourite of all them. As with all the Minox 35s, its barn door lens cover means its ultra compact when not in use and easy to fit into a pocket

Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandugo

The Sandugo was a blood compact, performed in the island of Bohol in the Philippines, between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol on March 16, 1565, to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. This is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos. "Sandugo" is a Visayan word which means "one blood".

The Sandugo is depicted in both the provincial flag and the official seal of the government in Bohol. It also features the image of the blood compact. The top of the seal explains the history behind the Sandugo event that occurred in Bohol, the fleet and the location where the Spaniards anchored and the place where the treaty was conducted which was dated on March 16, 1565

In February, I noted the following statement from the U.S. Government:

"If every American home changed out just 5 high-use light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR, each family would save more than $60 every year in energy costs, and together we'd keep more than one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air – equal to the emissions of 8 million cars. That's a $6 billion energy savings for Americans, equivalent to the annual output of more than 21 power plants."

I am now quite pleased to note that we have replaced 20 bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs at home.
