On November 29th 2009, 4 Lakewood Police Officers were preparing for their morning shift at a local coffee shop when a coward of a man ambushed and murdered them in cold blood. This has shaken the community and me personally to the core. I’ve lived in Lakewood for the past 5 years only recently moving a few miles away on the Tacoma side of the freeway. I’ve always found members of the Lakewood Police force to be kind and easy to communicate with and always very professional. Real people with real families that now unfortunately leave 9 children without a parent. These officers are out on the streets to keep the community safe, and something like this should never happen again.
Aside from the monstrous part of society that came about by this tragedy, it has been inspiring to see the outpouring of support from the community for our protectors, those who brave every day and put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.
May you rest in peace, Sergeant Mark Renninger, Officer Tina Griswold, Officer Ronald Owens, and Officer Greg Richards.
