Chandra finds it difficult to run the family of 4 with her husband’s meager income as a daily-wage labourer. Moreover,
his job is very seasonal and there are several months he is jobless. Most of the earned money is spent on repaying the
debts to the money lenders.At this juncture, World Vision gave Chandra economic development assistance (EDA) in the form of a milch animal worth
Rs. 18000. Chandra is happy now as the milch animal provides her an additional income of Rs. 2200 each month. She has
repaid all her debts! “I thank World Vision and my children’s sponsors for their support. Today, I am relieved from the
burden of poverty,” says Chandra with gratitude.
World Vision’s Area Development programme (ADP) in Singhbhum, Jharkhand has implemented an innovative food security programme through kitchen gardens. This has improved the livelihood of the people and has provided them with nutrition through fresh vegetables. The children in these villages now have a regular supply of nutritious vegetables for a healthy childhood.
The village had only one tube well which was in defunct condition. WVI provided a tube well. Agriculture was the only source of livelihood. Kharif (July-October) in their village depend on rain till 2006. Villagers were migrating due to regular crop failure. World vision provided 10 HP pump and PVC pipe of 1400 ft. With the lift irrigation, 25 Acres land got irrigated from the nearby small natural canal.
