Pilsen hosts a two-day party every summer, Tardes en El Zocalo, in late August. That weekend, the cul-de-sac of 18th Street and Paulina is transformed into a venue in which Grammy nominated artists like Sones de Mexico perform for free. The event celebrates the cultural wealth of Pilsen and its strong Mexican roots through music, art, and food.

Ravichandran and Jayanthi had two daughters until a few years ago. In an accident their younger daughter drowned in a well and died. Since then, they have pinned their hopes and dreams on their elder daughter Ramya. Being daily wage labourers they try their best to provide everything for her; and she didn’t let them down. In her 10th standard board exam she scored 475/500 (95%). But her village school has classes only up to the 10th standard. A private school of excellence in the town has accepted her as a student. The normal fee at this school is Rs. 35,000, but Ramya was offered a scholarship and was required to pay only Rs. 6,000 a year. Ramya's parents were unable to afford this fee. They required financial assistance of Rs. 12,000 for her to complete schooling.
