Lighthouses are very important to ships sailing near a coastline. They project a strong beacon of light to help ships identify their location, warn them of danger, and serve as a marker of nearby land. This particular lighthouse is called the Duluth Harbor North Breakwater Lighthouse and is used to mark the breakwater at the head of the Duluth Ship Canal.

I see these everyday on my way to and from work, for some reason I've been drawn to the idea of photographing them - doing a whole series of the antennae in different lighting and weather. Odd idea and compositionally challenging since they are right next to the freeway and there are houses and other buildings around. While I entertained the idea for a while I never thought I would actually take the time to stop and take a picture, but on my way home early from work the other day there were rain showers and there was a wonderful rainbow I could , notice the could, have captured with these antennae. I actually felt regret that I did not stop for that image, so the very next day when I saw this I had to stop. This means that I am probably about to embark on the photographic study of these antennae, because they intrigue me.
