Our modern world today heavily depends on communication, between friends and families, between countries and within business. To feed this growing need for information and communication, people surround themselves with communication technologies. Blackberry, computers, hand phones, television and radios. But the more people use these technologies to stay in touch, the more we become addicted to them. We don’t like to leave without our blackberries or hand phones, we stare on the computers, and we watch the news for hours on end. Like me, this is especially for the younger generations than the older generations. It appears that by becoming increasingly dependent on technologies in our lives, we are slowly being ‘taken over’ by them instead. My artwork shows this gradual conquering of technologies represented by the wires and the machines. The facial features are neutral to show that it represents anyone and the facial expression is meant to look sad.

The fundamental characteristic of music diachronically is that it is strongly related to emotions. “Music serves a dual purpose: it evokes new emotions and, by creating associations between conscious emotions and unconscious archetypes, it promotes synthesis or wholeness in the human psyche. Music is a mechanism of synthesis, a means of creating harmony and wholeness in the human soul”.

This is probably the only characteristic of music that it has not changed like many others, from the music perception to the way people listen to music, have differentiated as time went by. Today, music is the product of a profitable industry and this interrelation affects dramatically its essence and its future. The statement of Hany Nada is indicative: “We have three times more engagement yet we cannot get our users to pay for it? That’s fucked up!”

The future of the music industry points to several directions:

•Apps that read the user’s mind know its musical taste and can even choose what music to start playing according to the user’s mood.

•Prediction of an artist’s success by the use of analytics tools

•The revenue for recorded music isn’t going to come from selling music to consumers but it will come from selling music audiences to advertisers
