This ruby crowned kinglet adds a splash of color to the dreary grey day. At Commonwealth Lake.

The water was running high and the waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek were roaring.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

This was one of several shots of least sandpipers visiting Commonwealth Lake. This one was near the walking path in the swamp area.

These three American wigeon were cruising Commonwealth Lake together. He seemed quite comfortable having two females as wingducks!

An unnamed waterfall on Commonwealth Creek.

This Great Blue regularly makes an appearance by Commonwealth Lake, affording many opportunities for compositions.

Just an example of the amazing peaks one sees in Alberta's magnificent Kananaskis Country south of Canmore and Banff. I will be making plans to spend more time here.....was most impressed.

Have a wonderful week!

This fox sparrow flew up from its normal grounded hunting, then decided that the higher vantage didn't offer much, so it descended back to the ground. At Commonwealth Lake today.

Just one of the many amazing peaks in Alberta's impressive Kananaskis Country south of Banff. Peaks galore. I plan on spending more time exploring here. ;-))

Hope your weekend is going wonderfully!

Went over to Commonwealth Lake this afternoon. It was raining, but the red winged blackbirds didn't care. They were very active, raising the roof with their singing. I caught this one happily singing in the rain.

This green heron was perched, ready to strike. The algae was still covering Commonwealth Lake when I shot this in August, but that didn't seem to prevent the heron from seeing its prey.

One of the many lovely little waterfalls along Commonwealth Creek near Snoqualmie Pass.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

There are a number of lovely waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek.

Commonwealth Creek full of fall colors. Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada.

And LTEX GP15-1 sit on siding in Thompson Landing, Va. waiting for the day to begin. GP15-1 is an ex Conrail and CF7 an ATSF rebuild.

The creek is low, but the waterfalls were still lovely. We took the old PCT up the Commonwealth Basin, and dawdled a bit taking photos of the waterfalls while we waited to see if the heavy fog would lift, as the weather prognosticators predicted.

Explored.

We found a cool little ice bridge on the way up to Piggy Plus. Nice views back down the creek towards Commonwealth Peak. It's always fun to find unexpected photo opportunities like this along the way... Makes carrying the heavy camera and lenses worth it :)

The moon was there... It was just smaller and maybe was not full :)

Home of Kentucky Wildcats. Opened in 1973 and is the South Eastern Conferences newest stadium.

Banks are continuing to close their branches as more customers switch to digital and mobile banking. I used to be in awe of the high ceiling and marble columns when using this branch and security wouldn't let me take pictures. Now no one stops me but gone are the teller counters with brass grilles, and to my horror they have painted the marble columns white. They should have converted this branch into a museum.

Another frame of this nice scene from earlier in the fall.

CSXT's morning hotshot I022 (Syracuse to Worcester premium intermodal) is seen making easy work of the 1% grade of Charlton Hill through the interlocking at CP60 on modern day CSXT's Boston Sub mainline, the once and forever Boston and Albany Railroad. The train's destination is only fifteen miles away after making an early morning run along the Mohawk Valley and then across the commonwealth on the Vanderbilt's gateway to New England.

A panoramic photo of beautiful Salmon Bay on Rottnest Island in Western Australia; unbelievably the beach was almost deserted. The Wadjemup Lighthouse can be seen across the bay on the far shore.

Rottnest Island is 18 kilometres (11 mi) off the Western Australian coast, very slightly north of due west from Fremantle. It is called Wadjemup by the Noongar people, meaning "place across the water". The island is 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) long, and 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) at its widest point. Rottnest Island has been a popular local holiday destination for over 50 years. The Western Australian vernacular diminutive is "Rotto". No private ownership of land is allowed. The island was given the name "Rotte nest" (meaning "rat nest" in the 17th century Dutch language) by Dutch captain Willem de Vlamingh who spent six days exploring the island from 29 December 1696, mistaking the quokkas for giant rats.
