The water was running high and the waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek were roaring.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

This was one of several shots of least sandpipers visiting Commonwealth Lake. This one was near the walking path in the swamp area.

These three American wigeon were cruising Commonwealth Lake together. He seemed quite comfortable having two females as wingducks!

I stopped by Commonwealth Lake today, and this bull frog was making its way from the main lake to one of the side ponds. Drew a small, socially spaced crowd.

I took this shot of a green heron this morning at Commonwealth Lake - there were three very actively working the lake. But what caught my eye on this one is the reddish spot of light at the bottom of this one's eye. I'm pretty sure that it was the angle of light passing through the lens of its eye and refracting. In any case, this alert heron was watching for a fish, and eventually got one. (To be posted at another time.)

An unnamed waterfall on Commonwealth Creek.

This green heron was waiting for prey in the small side pond off of Commonwealth Lake. It moved in the general area, but lingered for at least a half hour before flying off.

This Great Blue regularly makes an appearance by Commonwealth Lake, affording many opportunities for compositions.

Just an example of the amazing peaks one sees in Alberta's magnificent Kananaskis Country south of Canmore and Banff. I will be making plans to spend more time here.....was most impressed.

Have a wonderful week!

Just one of the many amazing peaks in Alberta's impressive Kananaskis Country south of Banff. Peaks galore. I plan on spending more time exploring here. ;-))

Hope your weekend is going wonderfully!

Went over to Commonwealth Lake this afternoon. It was raining, but the red winged blackbirds didn't care. They were very active, raising the roof with their singing. I caught this one happily singing in the rain.

The creek cascades down boulders.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

There are a number of lovely waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

This rippling sea creature is not a plesiosaur, but a group of otters at various points of submerging. Reminded me of some of the shots of the Loch Ness monster!

Commonwealth Creek full of fall colors. Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada.

This location in Canberra Australia has been done to death by photographers and it's easy to see why. This is my take on the "famous" bridge that straddles Lake Burley Griffin at sunrise.

The Australian Parliament House can be seen in the middle of the frame and where the bridge spans meet.

The creek is low, but the waterfalls were still lovely. We took the old PCT up the Commonwealth Basin, and dawdled a bit taking photos of the waterfalls while we waited to see if the heavy fog would lift, as the weather prognosticators predicted.

Explored.

This Cemetery is a combined municipal and military burial ground situated in the coastal town of Deal, Kent, in South East England. Opened in May 1856, it was created to provide a new burial ground for Deal at a time when its general population was expanding and when previous, often ad hoc facilities for dealing with deaths in the area no longer sufficed.

The cemetery's civilian burials are managed by Dover Council, and its military burials by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It contains a Cross of Sacrifice of some significance and the burials of military service personnel from Great Britain, Belgium, Canada, and, very unusually, Nazi Germany, many of whom took part in some of the most famous incidents in World War I and World War II, including: the Gallipoli Campaign, the Battle of the Somme, the 1918 Zeebrugge Raid, the Battle of Dunkirk, the Battle of the Denmark Strait and sinking of HMS Hood, the Battle of Britain, and the more modern tragedy of the Deal barracks bombing in September 1989.

It also contains 66 local civilian war dead from World War II killed by German bombing and shelling between 1940 and 1945, 127 military burials from World War I (including three unidentified Naval ratings), and 54 from World War II.

There is a small mortuary chapel associated with the cemetery, but no dedicated church as such.

I didn’t get the opportunity to visit the military war graves but hope to go back This is the Chapel building

Commonwealth Avenue is a major road in Canberra, Australia. It connects Civic with South Canberra. Specifically, it runs between City Hill and Capital Hill. The first Commonwealth Avenue Bridge was constructed in 1928. It replaced a ford across the Molonglo River. The road is six lanes wide with a wide median down the middle. It crosses Lake Burley Griffin over the Commonwealth Bridge
