A view of Commonwealth Mountain from Burstall Lakes on a beautiful winter day in the Spray Valley in Kananaskis Alberta.

Spotted this ruby crowned kinglet at Commonwealth Lake, and actually got a small look at that ruby crown!

I took this shot of a green heron this morning at Commonwealth Lake - there were three very actively working the lake. But what caught my eye on this one is the reddish spot of light at the bottom of this one's eye. I'm pretty sure that it was the angle of light passing through the lens of its eye and refracting. In any case, this alert heron was watching for a fish, and eventually got one. (To be posted at another time.)

This Great Blue regularly makes an appearance by Commonwealth Lake, affording many opportunities for compositions.

Just an example of the amazing peaks one sees in Alberta's magnificent Kananaskis Country south of Canmore and Banff. I will be making plans to spend more time here.....was most impressed.

Have a wonderful week!

The water was running high and the waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek were roaring.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

This green heron was waiting for prey in the small side pond off of Commonwealth Lake. It moved in the general area, but lingered for at least a half hour before flying off.

This green heron was perched on a branch somewhat near the trail at Commonwealth Lake, but bushes lined the trail. I was able to stick the lens through the foliage to get a clear view without spooking the grand bird.

Just one of the many amazing peaks in Alberta's impressive Kananaskis Country south of Banff. Peaks galore. I plan on spending more time exploring here. ;-))

Hope your weekend is going wonderfully!

This green heron was perched, ready to strike. The algae was still covering Commonwealth Lake when I shot this in August, but that didn't seem to prevent the heron from seeing its prey.

Another shot from last weekend's very fogy morning at Commonwealth Lake.

There are a number of lovely waterfalls on Commonwealth Creek.

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

This Blue Heron was poised to capture any fish within reach. At Commonwealth Lake.

The creek is low, but the waterfalls were still lovely. We took the old PCT up the Commonwealth Basin, and dawdled a bit taking photos of the waterfalls while we waited to see if the heavy fog would lift, as the weather prognosticators predicted.

Explored.

We found a cool little ice bridge on the way up to Piggy Plus. Nice views back down the creek towards Commonwealth Peak. It's always fun to find unexpected photo opportunities like this along the way... Makes carrying the heavy camera and lenses worth it :)

The Venusian Commonwealth’s Scientific Research Division (SRD) is comprised of some of the most brilliant minds in the system. Specialising in high-density solar energy production, advanced composites and materials science, and large-scale chemical engineering, the SRD has been responsible for many of the Commonwealth’s most significant technological breakthroughs over the past half century.

From atmospheric carbon processing to corrosion-resistant structural ceramics, their work underpins not only Venusian infrastructure but much of the inner system’s industrial economy.

Pictured here is an SRD Robotics Team deployed for atmospheric and surface analysis operations. The team consists of two technician-engineers, a Turtledove-class Atmospheric Sampling Drone, and an Aurochs-class Hazardous Environs Surface Explorer.

The Turtledove operates within the dense cloud layers, conducting real-time chemical analysis and aerosol sampling, while the Aurochs is rated for extended surface missions under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. Together, they provide the Commonwealth with critical environmental data essential to long-term atmospheric modelling, materials testing, and planetary-scale engineering initiatives.

Commonwealth Avenue is a major road in Canberra, Australia. It connects Civic with South Canberra. Specifically, it runs between City Hill and Capital Hill. The first Commonwealth Avenue Bridge was constructed in 1928. It replaced a ford across the Molonglo River. The road is six lanes wide with a wide median down the middle. It crosses Lake Burley Griffin over the Commonwealth Bridge

The moon was there... It was just smaller and maybe was not full :)
