SUICIDE AT PARNELL.
AN OLD MAN HANGS HIMSELF.
Yesterday, shortly after noon, an old man, a fish hawker, named John Ford, was found by his wife to have committed suicide in his bedroom, by hanging himself. He resided off Selwyn Terrace, Parnell. The following are the particulars, so far as they can be ascertained :—Ford, who was well known in the district, has been latterly a great sufferer from rheumatism, being ill for nine weeks, and had been pretty well confined to his bed, and was consequence in a despondent frame of mind. At half past seven o'clock Mrs. Ford went away to work at Mrs. O'Brien's, Manukau Road, leaving her husband in bed. On going away he called her back and bade her good bye, as was his custom, leaving three children at home with him. Shortly after noon, one of the daughters, Anna Ford, came to Mrs. O'Brien's and said her father was worse, and that he wished mother to come home. Mrs. Ford thereupon went home, and on entering her bedroom found her husband hanging to a staple on the wall, having hung himself with a clothes line. The staple was about six feet from the ground, and his toes were on the ground. She gave the alarm, and a man named Edward Pierce and other neighbours came to her aid. The body was still warm, but life was extinct. Dr. Mackellar was sent for, and was soon in attendance, but his services of course were of no avail. Constable Hobson also made the necessary inquiries. Deceased left the following letter in pencil, addressed to his wife:—
My Dear Wife,—When you get this note I will be no more. Poverty and ill-health caused me to commit the rash act. I tried to work yesterday, but could not. I have brought trouble enough on you. That landlady said I was at work, and I was not. I have brought you just 1s 6d in eight weeks, so good-bye, and God bless you, and may God have mercy on me.
An inquest will be held to-day at the usual hour at the Exchange Hotel, Parnell, by Dr. Philson, coroner.

The inquest on the body of John Ford, a man of 63 years, who was found hanging in a bedroom of his residence, Marsden-street. was held at the Exchange Hotel by Dr. Philson, the coroner. The jury having viewed the body, Mrs Ford was called. She grave evidence as to the suffering of the deceased from rheumatism, and several other matters which have already been published. Dr. Mackellar was called. He deposed to seeing deceased yesterday and finding him dead. The body was warm and free from rigour. There was only one mark of violence—a deep, circular groove round his neck. He had been dead about an hour. Edward Pearce said he went into the room and cut deceased down. Constable Foreman gave corroborative evidence of the others. The verdict returned by the jury was as follows : "That the deceased was found dead, hanging by the neck, probably his own act and deed, but whether or not he was of sound mind at the time there is no evidence to show."

WHEREAS, Gwinnett County is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the more than a million residents who live within these 437 square miles; and
WHEREAS, Fire is a serious public safety concern, and people are at the most significant risk from fire while at home; and
WHEREAS, According to the National Fire Protection Association, home cooking fires led to 135 deaths and more than 3,000 injuries in the United States in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services is dedicated to reducing fire incidents and fire-related injuries through effective community risk reduction strategies, including smoke alarm blitzes, home surveys, fire safety presentations, social media messaging, and prevention and enforcement activities; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Month is, "Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention," which serves as a reminder to stay in the kitchen while cooking, use a timer, and avoid distractions while preparing meals; and
WHEREAS, Functional smoke alarms, well-practiced home fire escape plans, regular fire drills, and the removal of home hazards significantly increase the likelihood of preventing or surviving a home fire.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nicole Love Hendrickson, on behalf of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the month of October as Fire Prevention Month in Gwinnett County. I strongly encourage all residents to actively participate in fire prevention activities at home, at work, and at school and to take the necessary steps to protect their families, communities, and properties from the devastating effects of fires.

Uganda Cranes defensive Midfielder, Robert Kakeeto, has committed future with Danish Super liiga Club, Aalborg Football Club.
Robert Kakeeto has tied himself with four times Superliga Champions for more three years. And his contract will run until June 30th 2023.
The 25 year old Midfielder was born in Uganda but in 2013 he moved to Denmark and joined Nordjlands Idraetshojskole.
He crossed to Aalborg Football Club in 2015 and his senior debut came one year later in 2016.
Kakeeto has featured for Aalborg in 35 competitive games but his spell with them has seen him being loaned out to Jammerburg FC in second Division of Danish league rankings in 2018 and Finish HIFK Football Club in August 2019.
His Coach Inge Andre Olsen has praised Kakeeto for his great performnace he had with Aalborg in 2020, more especially during the Championship games, He believes Kakeeto has improved a lot on his game and concedes he is a man to trust in central Midfield.
