With the afternoon temperature reaching the late twenties, only committed sun worshippers occupy the east side of Sandiacre Cricket Club's Longmoor Lane ground. Captured during a 15-run victory over Cavaliers & Carrington in a fourth round - last 16 - tie of the prestigious ECB National Club Championship.
It was a keen contest between second place in the top division of the Derbyshire County Premier League (Sandiacre Town) and third place in the top division of the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Premier League (Cavaliers & Carrington).
Given Cavaliers & Carrington found themselves 2-2 (both Scott McNeill catches) after two overs of their reply, the visitors did extremely well on a sultry afternoon to get as close as they did, posting 212 off 39.5 overs in reply to 227-8 off 40 overs.
Key was the dismissals, in quick succession, of Nayyar Abbas (47) and Shivsinh Thakor (47), who put on a patient 103 for the visitors' third wicket. Adam Tillock (62 off 50 balls) took up the fight after their departures but, when he went, Cavaliers & Carrington simply had too much to do and lacked the batters to do it. Tillock and Raheem Ahmed (13) added 44 for the sixth wicket. Daniel Wheeldon (2-32), John Jordison (2-38), impressive spinner Connor Marshall (2-39) and Matthew Newbold (2-52) shared the wickets.
Earlier, Sandiacre made a measured start. James Chapman (69) and Luke Thomas (28) figured in a first wicket partnership worth 79. Chapman and Jake Needham (44) put on 71 for the third wicket. The hosts fell away from that point, 151-3, although the stocky Wheeldon struck an aggressive 35 off 26 balls. He managed to shatter a bat! Mateen Teli (3-24) took three wickets in an eventful over. Usman Arshad had 2-43.

Jennifer Keesmaat is committed to creating places where people flourish. Having poured her coherent, comprehensive, and collaborative approach into cities throughout North America – and doing the same in her role as the Chief Planner for the City of Toronto – Keesmaat speaks with passion on her belief that now is the time to engage in city building and take ownership of our shared future.
Over the past decade Keesmaat has worked in municipalities across Canada – including Moncton, Halifax, Mississauga, Peterborough, London, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, and Vancouver – on the development of site plans, urban design guidelines, official plan reviews, corridor studies, culture plans, secondary plans and university campus master plans. Her planning practice is characterized by an emphasis on collaborations across sectors, and broad engagement with municipal staff, councils, developers, business leaders, NGO’s and residents associations.

These are images of the rally for the victims of Franco's dictatorship in Madrid in solidarity with Justice Baltasar Garzón and for the Historical Memory. Puerta del Sol, Saturday 24 April 2010, 8pm.
Garzon, who ordered the arrest of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998 under the principle of "universal jurisdiction" which held that grave crimes committed abroad can be tried in Spain, now faces two court cases himself.
Earlier this month he was indicted for exceeding his authority by opening an investigation in 2008 into crimes committed by General Francisco Franco's regime in Spain that were covered by an amnesty.
"Fascists get out of the courts," "Universal justice," and "More judges like Garzon," cried the thousands at the rally in Madrid which drew Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar as well as other artists and celebrities, marching out from Puerta de Alcalá to Puerta del Sol.
On Day 2, Sunny came with me to the Edmonton Humane Society, where I volunteer once a week to take photos of cats that are up for adoption. Sunny got super cozy with Koleen, and settled down for a nap.

Sweet, young Madeline Smith was charged with the murder by Arsenic of Emile L’Angelier in 1857. And while all the evidence seemed to point to her having committed this awful crime she was let free by her jury. Many believe her youth and beauty had swayed the decision in her favor, as the passionate letters sent between her and Emile, her lover, proved that she had a very good motive for killing him. Throughout the trial Madeline stood tall and strong in the stand where many expected her to cry and swoon, only when the most intimate of details were read aloud did she hide her face. Was she so hard that she could tolerate her most personal intimate life exposed to the public, or did she know her own innocence?
At that time in Scotland proof of a sexual relationship would constitute a legal marriage, and she even referred to Emile as such, but her farther would not allow her to marry him, and she agreed to marry someone he found more suitable. She broke off her relationship with Emile who threatened to expose their relationship. She had been found to have bought a number of small amounts of Arsenic which she claimed she diluted for use as a cosmetic on her face and arms (yes, women did still poison themselves then in the belief that it made them look better). And on three occasions Emile was ill with stomach complaints. On his death a post mortem found a huge dose of the poison in his system, but they could not prove that he had been with Madeline. We still don’t know if she killed Emile or if he killed himself.

Madeline’s gown is made up of three long ruffled layers for the skirt in pretty cream chiffon with lilac flowers, each one edged with lace. The sleeves are wide hanging pagoda style sleeves, again with lace edging and frills, worn over silk cotton under-sleeves with tight cuffs. The bodice is gathered in a shawl style around the wide shoulders over a silk cotton chemisette with a high neckline. Under her dress Madeline has on her spilt crotch drawers and chemise, a plain white petticoat, a dark red satin covered crinoline, a stiff coarse petticoat with a deep ruffle at the hem, and another navy colored petticoat. She may have had more but I could only fit so many around her tiny waist.
