The male Cardinal will often feed the female as a symbolic jester of his commitment to her during mating season.

So I set up the camera outside the stables, the parents are zooming in and out feeding the new fledglings (of which seem to be down to 4 now) it’s real hard, they are so quick, so out of about 500 phots,,,,, this one

Christmas tree decoration of a polar bear. First time I have dabbled with high key and was harder than I envisaged. Would liked to have dabbled longer but too many other commitments at this time of year

Autumn in the Jardin de Luxembourg

This is again an attempt to photograph people and daily life in Paris in a way that keep the anonymity of the person. I will post soon some examples where people are recognizable. Here I was fascinated by the light on the chairs and his way of raking the leaves

Today's photo is a square crop stitch panorama photo of the beautiful shores of North Lake near Bishop California. This spot is special to photographer’s in California as its one of the few spots were, we get some fall colors. I make it a point to make at least one trip every year during Autumn to the eastern side of Sierra Nevada. This year I had a lot of commitments during the weekend to make the trip, so I decided on a solo trip to Bishop to combine a milky way shot and a sunrise shot of foliage at North Lake.

This shot was taken just before sunrise using the very even ambient light that was present. In my opinion, this is one of the best lights to shoot autumnal colors as the light is very even providing the best rendering of color. I really liked the stones that were right by the shore and wanted to include them into the frame as a foreground interest but wanted to get something different than a portrait composition. So I decided to take about three shots in landscape orientation and then stitch them together as a vertical panorama. I also used my polarizing filter to a medium setting to get a perfect reflection I the water and to eliminate any unwanted reflected light in the scene.

Sometimes I get lucky. This pair did not notice me standing with my tripod. They swam up close, completely undisturbed. Their gift presentation was also a gift to me; Clark's Grebes; Aechmophorus clarkii; Santa Margarita Lake; CA; USA

The leather was well-loved, showing signs of countless miles marched through mud and dust, rain and snow. They bore the weight of a soldier's commitment, each scuff and scratch telling a tale of battles fought and hardships endured. The laces, frayed and unevenly worn, had been tied and untied countless times, securing the soldier's foothold on foreign lands far from home.

But now, these boots lay silent, their laces left untied, the dust of a distant land clinging to their once-polished surface. The soldier who had worn them with unwavering pride and determination would not be returning to lace them up again.

In the quiet moments, when the world outside seemed to pause, these boots served as a poignant reminder of a life interrupted, of a future forever altered. They were more than footwear; they were a symbol of a sacrifice that had reached its culmination, an embodiment of a hero's journey that had come to an untimely end.

The Avenida Dr. Bernardino da Silva, one of Olhão boulevards, was built in 1926 and remodeled in 1988.The traditional ‘pedras portuguesas’ were ofcourse used for the pavement. The avenue was named after a former Olhão celebrity (Vila Real de Sto António 1856 - Olhão 1916). He held the positions of doctor of the Maritime Commitment, Municipal Doctor and Deputy Delegate of Health. He was also a lover of music and wrote "Music: its influence and employment".

I really love this photo better with these Agapanthus leading the way, in front of The Palace Of Fine Arts....I have never seen healthier Agapanthus plants anywhere else, than these...The Daylillies also were around the lagoon that I posted in the last few days.

Wiki...

The Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District of San Francisco, California, is a monumental structure originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. One of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition, it is still situated on its original site. It was rebuilt in 1965, and renovation of the lagoon, walkways, and a seismic retrofit were completed in early 2009.

In addition to hosting art exhibitions, it remains a popular attraction for tourists and locals and is a favorite location for weddings and wedding party photographs for couples throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and such an icon that a miniature replica of it was built in Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim.[3]

Built around a small artificial lagoon, the Palace of Fine Arts is composed of a wide, 1,100 ft (340 m) pergola around a central rotunda situated by the water.[10] The lagoon was intended to echo those found in classical settings in Europe, where the expanse of water provides a mirror surface to reflect the grand buildings and an undisturbed vista to appreciate them from a distance.

Ornamentation includes Bruno Louis Zimm's three repeating panels around the entablature of the rotunda, representing "The Struggle for the Beautiful", symbolizing Greek culture.[11] while Ulric Ellerhusen supplied the weeping women atop the colonnade[12] and the sculptured frieze and allegorical figures representing Contemplation, Wonderment and Meditation.[13][14]

The underside of the Palace rotunda's dome features eight large insets, which originally contained murals by Robert Reid. Four depicted the conception and birth of Art, "its commitment to the Earth, its progress and acceptance by the human intellect," and the four "golds" of California (poppies, citrus fruits, metallic gold, and wheat).[15]

Some family commitments involving a trip upt’ North stopped me posting over the weekend, so to prevent another Flickr blockage I made sure I did photoshop editing on my return to keep things loose, so to speak. However, when I thought this LE seascape was going to be a gas, I was wrong. It turned out a bit lumpier than I expected and I had a lot of cleaning up to do. Overconfidence can lead to embarrassing mistakes. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Last year I started a Kestrel project as they had had 4 successful nests in the nesting box we put up. Although it started off really well, in the end it failed, due to aldultery, domestic violence, and lack of commitment of the Kestrel couple. Read all about it here.

So I tried to pick up the project this year, but allas, again the couple decided to stay 'dinkies' for another year.

So here is one more of last year's session. Was really happy with daddy Kestrel flying straight towards me and with prey as an added bonus!

Keep your fingers crossed for next year!

The humanly side of photography contains at least three elements:

subjectivity

creativity

human initiative

If you going to purchase a camera and lenses you should try to be a photographer; however, for some (photographers?) laziness replaces human initiative.

Thanks for the comments, faves and visits

This captivating image showcases the breathtaking beauty of autumn in a residential area of San Jose, California. The photograph captures a tree-lined street where nature's artistry is on full display, creating a stunning tunnel of fall colors.

Majestic trees flank both sides of the street, their branches reaching across to form a natural archway. The foliage is a vibrant mix of russet, gold, and lingering green, illustrating the gradual transition of seasons. The interplay of sunlight filtering through the leaves creates a warm, dappled effect on the street below.

The road itself stretches invitingly into the distance, its vanishing point drawing the eye towards modest suburban homes barely visible through the autumnal curtain. Parked cars line both sides of the street, their presence a reminder of the lived-in nature of this picturesque neighborhood.

The scene is bathed in the golden light of late afternoon, enhancing the rich autumn palette and casting long shadows that add depth and texture to the composition. This lighting perfectly accentuates the seasonal transformation, making each leaf seem to glow with inner warmth.

This image encapsulates the unique charm of San Jose's residential areas, where the beauty of nature harmoniously coexists with urban living. It serves as a testament to the city's commitment to maintaining a green canopy, providing residents with a daily dose of natural splendor right outside their doors.

The photograph invites viewers to imagine themselves strolling down this enchanting street, perhaps hearing the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, and breathing in the crisp autumn air. It's a serene snapshot of suburban life in Silicon Valley, reminding us of the simple yet profound beauty that each changing season brings to our everyday surroundings.
