what might commerce look like in the future? i certainly don't know but these are the things i'm currently imagining...
what is sustainable? how do you make an honest living? how do you not end up working inside a gm, lehman brothers, etc?
This picture, looking up Commerce Street, which carried two-way traffic in those days, is probably from the 1950s or '60s. Henderson's Emporium was the place to go for wedding gifts. The street seems narrower today, compared to what we see here, but the pavements do not appear to be any narrower. Maybe today's cars are wider. The first business on the left is the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society at 39 Commerce Street. Not far up the street is a sign for a Post Office, which does not seem to be today's one, a few hundred metres away in Hill Street, although the 1955-1956 Arbroath Year Book gives the location of the Post Office as Hill Street.

Now, e-commerce websites have given a new image to a shopping industry, and it becomes easily possible for people to purchase things online from the comfort of their home.

Some men my age purchase artwork for their homes at Sothebys. I find that the cultural works and artifacts for sale at a comicon are far closer to my tastes.
Viz this great show poster by Phil Noto. I take some small pleasure in a piece of art on my wall that represents an intersection between two people or things whose work I love. My David Bowie concert promo poster (pulled from the side of a building outside Macworld Expo) is another example.
Phil's art style has familiar notes from classic magazine illustration but he's clearly taken it into his own, modern direction. I've been an avid fan for about a decade, when his art started showing up in art discussion boards.
From Bitcoin and beyond we look at where it all began from its inception to its current day notoriety helping shape the way in which we pay. We also look at what it means for consumers and merchants and how it can be easily integrated into new and existing platforms.

St Mary's Church stands at the southern end of a long, wide green. The church dates from the 12th century, though much of the interior is a product of rebuilding in the late medieval period. The church is notable for its central tower and tall spire, which rises 156 feet. The sheer size of the church is a testament to the wealth of Witney as a centre of commerce throughout the medieval period.
Highlights include the Wenman family mortuary chapel, with several exceptional monuments.
It seems likely that there was a church in Witney as early as the 10th century, but the earliest features of the church are narrow 11th century lancet windows in the nave.
The parish was one of the largest and wealthiest in Oxfordshire. The 11th century church was administered by the Bishop of Winchester, who granted the living to a succession of absentee rectors. The absent rectors became a thorny issue for the Bishop, and from the 13th century rectors were made to appoint a vicar who lived in the nearby vicarage. It was not smooth sailing, for in 1520 the churchwardens reported that both rector and vicar were absent, the churchyard was in decay, and the chancel in ruins.
The central tower was a later addition, probably replacing a 12th century at the west end of the nave. A north aisle and porch were added in the late 12th century, and transepts in the 13th century. The church was extended n the 14th century with a pair of chapels.
The medieval church was heavily restored in 1864 but unfortunately the restoration swept away many of the medieval features.

My last one from the latest project that I'm shooting for. The reason I had to reshoot this was for personal reason. I just didn't like the people that showed up on the bridge to be in the picture. TO me it just kind of throws it off and causes distraction. So I went back a few days later after taking this shot and patiently waited for 30 minutes for everybody to be clear of the shot than fired off my 10 exposures as fast as I could.

In November 1987, and at a moments' notice, Aberdeen College of Commerce (also known as the College of Comedy) was evacuated. Hundreds of students were hurried from the building, never to return. Structural reports had indicated that this piece of modernism was in immanent danger of collapse. It didn't; it was demolished and the site became prime building land. Students were moved to various sites elsewher with an area out at the Bridge of Don Barracks becoming first choice alternative.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs Caroline Atkinson today announced the U.S. private sector members who will serve the next term on the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum. The Forum will meet during the State visit of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to Washington, D.C., in October and will provide joint recommendations to both presidents on opportunities to advance the U.S.-Brazil bilateral relationship. Pritzker and Atkinson will co-chair the ninth meeting of the CEO Forum along with Brazilian Presidential Chief of Staff Minister Gleisi Hoffmann and Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Fernando Pimentel.
“During his recent trip to Brazil, Vice President Biden asked what the United States and Brazil can do together. The U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum seeks to answer that question through a public-private dialogue in which business leaders from the United States and Brazil make recommendations to the highest levels of our respective governments about the future of our bilateral economic and commercial relationship,” said Secretary Pritzker. “I am looking forward to meeting the new and returning CEOs along with both Ministers Pimentel and Hoffmann and Deputy National Security Advisor Atkinson to discuss issues of mutual interest.”
The Forum has had success opening discussions between the United States and Brazilian governments on a number of important issues, including visa reform, aviation, and education, and was instrumental in concluding the recent U.S.-Brazil Tax Information Exchange Agreement.
“Presidents Obama and Rousseff recognize the benefits of a strong and dynamic U.S.-Brazil commercial relationship. The upcoming CEO Forum meeting comes at an important time for the U.S.-Brazil relationship as we host President Rousseff during her official State Visit. I look forward to engaging both the CEOs and the Brazilian government on issues that will benefit our commercial relationship. By continuing to strengthen our partnership, we can provide the steady, positive leadership and growth our hemisphere needs as we seek to develop policies that will help our economies and our citizens prosper.” said Deputy National Security Advisory Atkinson.
Launched in 2007, the CEO Forum meets biannually and consists of up to a total of 24 CEOs from the United States and Brazil. The U.S. CEOs are appointed to a three-year term, and were selected from respondents to a Federal Register Notice for applicants to the U.S. section of the Forum. In addition to the appointments of the following individuals to the Forum, Secretary Pritzker and Deputy National Security Advisor Atkinson have designated Patricia Woertz, Chairman, CEO, and President of Archer Daniels Midland Company to serve as Chair of the U.S. Section of the Forum.
