It is cooler , in the stable , climate control

I did have a steam and fence shot, but I've left that at home, this one is a reminder of the snow just before Christmas so festive and now just a distant memory it would seem.

Got knocked back from a fence group last week, so this one is a little more obvious:) hope it is ok.

Small, brightly-colored leaf warbler. Yellowish green above and pale below, with bright yellow brow stripes, a pale crown stripe, and a bicolored bill (dark above, orange below). Has two wingbars, of which upper can be quite pale or absent. Note white undertail and distinct behavior of flicking both wings at the same time (Blyth’s, Claudia’s, and Hartert’s leaf warblers flick their wings alternatingly). More extensively yellow and with a stronger, more contrasting head pattern than Blyth’s and Emei leaf warblers, and lacks the bright rump patch of “Pallas’s-type” leaf warblers. Closely related Kloss’s Leaf Warbler is extremely similar; look for Davison’s brighter and more extensively white undertail coverts. Breeds in deciduous broadleaved and mixed hill and montane forest; descends into forested foothills in the non-breeding season. Song is short and sweet: “wih-chew-chee wih-chew-chee-wih”. Calls are high and liquid-sounding: “chew-wee” or “wit-chew-wee”. (eBird)

We saw these little warblers quite frequently, flitting rapidly through the trees. This one was chasing insects in the more inaccessible sections of the trees, but came out to give us a quick once-over before resuming the hunt.

Thanks to Daren who alerted me to the fact that I had mis-ID'd this warbler. I used Merlin Photo ID and compared my other photos with those from eBird to realize that this was not a Hume's Warbler, but a Davison's Leaf Warbler.

The elusive otter is one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish (particularly eels and salmonids), waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as 'holts'. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm, and can close their ears and nose when underwater. They require clean rivers, with an abundant source of food and plenty of vegetation to hide their secluded holts.

How to identify

The otter is a large, powerful mammal, with grey-brown fur, a broad snout, and a pale chest and throat. Otters can be distinguished from mink by their much larger size and broader face.

Distribution

A rare but widespread species, now found throughout the country but absent from parts of central and southern England, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands (Courtesy the Wildlife Trusts).

Thank you for all the lovely comments on the first image I posted of this. I thought I would post just one more with a slightly different composition, I think my long exposure attempts will stay hidden!

So today I am doing the British thing of sunbathing flat out in the garden in a vain attempt to look a bit more glowing and healthy.

Especially as tomorrow I start a 4 week course of meds where I cannot sit in the sun. How rubbish is that?

Interior St Martin-in-the-Fields + 1 in comments by keithhull

L S I have admired the exterior of James Gibbs’ eighteenth-century church, St Martin-in-the-Fields, for many years . I recently posted a shot of the church, which can be seen at the top of the comments . Many of you will have listened to concerts or recordings from St Martin-in-the-Fields.

It was only on this most recent trip that I finally had a look at the interior. It’s a wonderfully simple and uncluttered church, which is also surprisingly light . The image was taken with my Iphone.

I was particularly impressed with the relatively new East window.

The window designed by Shirazeh Houshiary, in collaboration with architect Pip Horne, was installed above the altar of St Martin-in-the-Fields in 2008. The glass, held within a stainless steel framework, is made of mouth-blown clear glass panels etched on both sides with a subtle, feathery pattern, a recognisable hallmark of Houshiary’s paintings. The glass panels graduate from a periphery of more transparent glass to a denser, whiter centre. The central ellipse itself is lightly etched and lit in such a way as to form a focal point of light visible internally and externally.

The artist wrote : “We needed to create a design that would resonate with people of different faiths, both secular and faithful, rich and poor. We needed to be in harmony with Gibbs’ vision and sensitive to his architecture and yet propose contemporary vision and materials. What is important to us is that the image has a universal dimension and everyone can find something in experiencing it. “. In a world of increasing religious intolerance, the window is like a fresh breath of air.
