Star Ferry has announced to provide sightseeing service between Tsim Sha Tsui and Disneyland Resort Pier, which has been emptied for 11 years since its open. This route consists of 2 departures and the round trip fare is $180. Passengers can enjoy views of Tsing Ma Bridge during the 45 journey on a luxury ferry World Star.
The Star Ferry is a passenger ferry service operator and tourist attraction in Hong Kong. Its principal routes carry passengers across Victoria Harbour, between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The service is operated by the "Star" Ferry Company, which was founded in 1888 as the Kowloon Ferry Company, and adopted its present name in 1898.
The fleet of twelve ferries operates two routes across the harbour, carrying over 70,000 passengers a day, or 26 million a year. Even though the harbour is crossed by railway and road tunnels, the Star Ferry continues to provide an inexpensive mode of harbour crossing. The company's main route runs between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui.
It has been rated first in the “Top 10 Most Exciting Ferry Rides” poll by the Society of American Travel Writers (“SATW”) in February 2009.
Before the steam ferry was first created, people would cross the harbour in sampans. In 1870, a man named Grant Smith brought a twin-screw wooden-hulled boat from England and started running it across the harbour at irregular intervals.
In July 1873, an attempt was made to run steam ferries between Hong Kong and Kowloon. This was stopped at the request of the British consul in Canton, who feared it would enable visits to gambling houses in Kowloon.[4] It is thought that a service to the public was established in the mid-to-late 1870s, after the cession of Kowloon to the British in 1860.
The company was founded by Parsee merchant Dorabjee Naorojee Mithaiwala as the "Kowloon Ferry Company" in 1888. Naorojee bought Smith's boat, and later acquired the steam vessels Morning Star and Evening Star from a Mr Buxoo.[5] The popularity of this means of transport enabled him to increase his fleet to four vessels within 10 years: the Morning Star, Evening Star, Rising Star and Guiding Star. Each boat had a capacity of 100 passengers, and the boats averaged 147 crossings each day. He incorporated the business into the "Star Ferry Co Ltd" in 1898, prior to his retirement to India. The company name was inspired by his love of Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem "Crossing the Bar", of which the first line reads "Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me!".[citation needed]
At the time regular service was initiated, ships were moored by having a sailor on the vessel toss the rope to another on the pier, who would then catch it with a long billhook. This is still done today.
On his retirement in 1898, Naorojee sold the company to The Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company Limited, at that time owned by Jardine, Matheson & Co. and Sir Paul Chater.
A pier constructed on the western end of Salisbury Road opened in 1906, but was destroyed by a typhoon in September 1906. In the early 1950s, construction of the present twin-piered terminal commenced on both sides of Victoria Harbour, designed to handle 55 million passenger trips a year. The structure was completed in 1957, concurrent with the Edinburgh Place Ferry Pier built on the island side.
At the turn of the century, Hong Kong currency and Canton currency were both accepted as legal tender in Hong Kong. In the autumn of 1912, following a devaluation, the Star Ferry caused a controversy by insisting, together with the tramways, that payment had to be made in Hong Kong currency only. Canton coinage would no longer be accepted.
In 1924 the Yaumati Ferry operated the route to Kowloon in a duopoly. In 1933 the Star Ferry made history by building the Electric Star, the first diesel electric passenger ferry of its kind.
By 1941, the company had six vessels. During the Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong, the competing Yaumati Ferry was allowed to continue, while the Japanese commandeered the Star Ferry for their own purposes. The Golden Star and the Meridian Star were used to transport prisoners of war from Sham Shui Po to Kai Tak Airport. In 1943, the Golden Star was bombed and sunk in the Canton River by the Americans, and the Electric Star was sunk in the harbour. After the war, the ferries were recovered and returned to service.
Until the opening of the Cross Harbour Tunnel in 1972, the Star Ferry remained the main means of public transportation between Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon side.
The Star Ferry operates on a franchise from the Government. It was last renewed in March 1998, the year of its centenary.

Today we commence a series on the little town of Ross in Tasmania's Midlands. As its name suggests, Ross is rich in Scottish cultural heritage. It was founded in 1812 during one of Gov. Lachlan Macquarie's expeditions.
From Macquarie's own diaries we read:
"I named our last Night's Station 'Ross', in honor of H. M. Buchanan Esqr. – that being the name of his Seat on Loch-Lomond in Scotland; this part of Argyle Plains on the Right Bank of the Macquarie River being very beautiful and commanding a noble view."
Ross became one of the leading centres of sheep farming in Australia, and even today there is a "Tasmanian Wool Centre" here which celebrates that trade.
Today Ross is best known for its famous sandstone bridge. But this isn't it. I've called this "the forgotten bridge" because everyone drives over it when entering the town from the north, and nobody stops or is even aware that a convict built bridge is under the road here.
If you enlarge this shot you'll see that although this is built with basic sandstone blocks and doesn't have the decoration of the famous Ross Bridge, it also has stood the test of time.
The Olympic Theatre, begun in 1580 as Palladio's last project and completed by his pupil Vincenzo Scamozzi, is the first example of a permanent covered theatre of the modern era. Completed posthumously, it was limited to the cavea with loggia and proscenium. Scamozzi designed the wooden scenery, very effective for its perspective illusionism and attention to detail, and which can still be admired today. Inaugurated on 3 March 1585 with the performance of Sophocles' Oedipus the King, it is still in use. The scenery, created especially for this performance, represents the seven streets of the city of Thebes and uses the technique of accelerated perspective to give the impression that the space is much longer than it actually is (a few meters). The theatre, with its large proscenium wall, numerous statues and decorations, was made of wood and stucco.
Caernarfon Castle, which is almost on the edge of the Menai Strait in North Wales, was built by King Edward I (commencing in 1283) as part of a strategic ring of castles around Wales. The town and castle were sacked in 1294 when Madog ap Llywelyn led a rebellion against the English. Caernarfon was recaptured the following year. During the Glyndŵr Rising of 1400–1415, the castle was besieged once more.
When the Tudor dynasty ascended to the English throne in 1485, tensions between the Welsh and English began to diminish and castles were considered less important. As a result, Caernarfon Castle was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. Despite its dilapidated condition, during the English Civil War Caernarfon Castle was held by Royalists, and was besieged three times by Parliamentarian forces.
This was the last time the castle was used in war. Caernarfon Castle was neglected until the 19th century when the state funded repairs. In 1911, Caernarfon Castle was used for the investiture of the Prince of Wales, and again in 1969.

Road bridge over Royal Canal and Railway at Broombridge, Dublin, Ireland
Passenger services commenced on 9 December 2017 on the new Luas Cross City Tram route from St. Stephen's Green to Broombridge, Dublin, Ireland. The route links up the existing Green and Red lines.
I was fortunate to make the journey on the very first Tram from St. Stephens Green to Broombridge. I then got off and we went for a stroll. I took a later Luas Tram back.

NRF troops have commenced the Kazakhstan campaign. NRF troops have taken over the town named PetroPavlosk. As a result NRF troops have seized the town, and have made a small base to command ops. Casualties were not severe but resistance was confronted and the problem has been solved. Under the command of President Boris, and his commander Kevechenko the campaign will be undoubtedly successful.
The Highland Council will commence running buses via an in-house operation on 4 January 2023. 11 pilot services that will fall under a Section 22 community bus permit have been registered with the Traffic Commissioner. Seven will start from that date with the other four following five days later.
A report to The Highland Council’s Redesign Board on 28 November states that the local authority (LA) expects to realise a potential saving of £1.4m per year on the initial group of contracted services that it has taken in-house, although it notes that there will be an initial outlay and “a one-off cost for the procurement of a transport management solution.”
That report states that an in-house bus company “will mitigate some of the significant cost increases fro the recent retendering of passenger and school transport contracts.” It adds that the model “will also provide the potential for an improved and more inclusive service to be provided to support other Council objectives.”
A team of three Project Officers and a Bus Operations Supervisor is in place. Interviews for the 11 drivers required are underway, with six recruited already. Although the bus services will operate under a Section 22 permit, the team includes two members with Transport Manager qualifications, the LA has pointed out.
The Highland Council will lease an operating centre in Inverness for the operation. Seven single-decker buses are currently stored in Inverness and two of six double-deckers have arrived in the city, although the LA also says that it has invested in 12 buses. The services to be taken up are currently in the hands of other operators including Stagecoach.

After crossing several bridges over rivers (see the two previous pictures), I saw the clouds turning to orange colors. I'm starting to doubt that I could be there in time. Finally at the lake, the magic of colors was already operating in the sky. I only had time to do 2/3 photos of lake hooker before the colors faded into the sky. On the way back, lighted by my front lamp, I crossed the road of several possums...

Loading has begun. You can see the the slip has two tracks which line up with two tracks on the barge. I believe the sip has a way to move the barge right/left to line up the other tracks for loading.

I started astrophotography shortly before the year 2000, using a modest Zenit E found in an attic. The vicissitudes of life meant that I gradually abandoned astrophotography to dedicate myself fully to nature photography.
I bought a wide-open lens (Nikon DX 35 mm f/1.8) several months ago in order to reconnect with starry sky photography. The very rainy weather in 2024 prevented me from doing so for a long time, but here is finally a first attempt at the constellation of Orion, overlooked by the bright planet Jupiter. If you zoom in on the image, you can even see the Orion nebula M42.

Taggart Lake is located in Grand Teton National Park, in the U. S. state of Wyoming. The natural lake is located at the terminus of Avalanche Canyon. A number of hiking trails can be found near the lake including a 3 miles (4.8 km) roundtrip hike commencing from the Taggart Lake Trailhead parking area. The lake is approximately one mile south of Bradley Lake reckoned by trail distance. A 2005 study of the water quality of the lakes in Grand Teton National Park indicated that the lakes in the park were still considered pristine and that they had not been impacted by air or water pollution.
In 1968, as the filthy survivors of British Railways’ steam fleet eked out their last few months of service, ‘Flying Scotsman’ was showing the future by operating a mainline steam programme.
On Sunday 12th May 1968, the usual crowds have assembled to see ‘Scotsman’, on this day working ‘The Norfolk Enterprise’ tour, leaving Kings Cross and heading to Norwich.
The locomotive operated a total of 17 tours during 1968 followed by a further 17 in 1969. This came to an abrupt end in the summer of 1969 when the locomotive commenced its disastrous tour of the USA.
However, the pattern of use of mainline steam had been defined, and after the triumphant ‘Return to Steam’ in 1971, steam trains have regularly operated on the national network.
