Llandudno Pier was designed by Brunlees and McKerrow. Taking 2 years to construct, building commenced in 1876 and was completed in 1878. The Pier is known for it splendid Victorian and Edwardian elegance.
The Pier is constructed of wrought iron lattice girders resting on cast iron columns – finished with a traditional wooden decking. The Pier’s total length is 2295ft, of which the main Pier is 1234ft, stretching majestically into the Irish Sea.
Llandudno Pier was originally operated by the Llandudno Pier Company. In 1968 the Pier was purchased by the Trust House Forte Group and then became part of the First Leisure Corporation in 1983. In 1998 the pier was purchased along with the 3 Blackpool Piers; Eastbourne Pier, South Parade Pier and Blackpool Tower & Winter gardens by Mr Trevor Hemmings operating under Leisure Parks Ltd. Today Llandudno Pier is owned and operated by Adam Williams, Tir Prince Leisure Group and still retains it elegant Victorian appearance, referred to by some as the “Queen of Welsh Piers”
The Pier Pavilion was famous for its musical concerts and was the venue at which the world famous conductor, the late Sir Malcolm Sergeant first appeared (1926/1927 Seasons). In later years such household names as George Formby, Ted Ray, Semprini. Petula Clark, Arthur Askey, Bryan Johnson, Bill Maynard (“Greengrass” in Heartbeat), Jimmy Edwards, Russ Conway, the Beverley Sisters, and Cliff Richard all appeared at the Pier Pavilion. In 1994 Pier Pavilion was ravaged by fire, leaving just the ornate wrought iron supports standing.
The Piers Landing Stage was used for many years for sailings to and from Liverpool, the Isle of Man and pleasure trips around the North Wales Coast. Many famous faces have sailed to the Pier over the years including Ringo Starky, who went on the achieve fame in The Beatles – Ringo Starr. Sailing to and from the Pier came to an end in 2005 due to the condition of the Berthing area. Following extensive renovations to the landing stage 2015 saw the return of the Waverly & Balmoral sailings.
Since purchasing the pier Adam Williams continues to invest in the structural maintenance of Llandudno Pier. During the winter months Steel Replacement and renewal of decking takes place every year. In addition a small but dedicated Maintenance Team work all year long to maintain and improve the standard of the Piers décor and appearance. The good work will continue.

La légende de Saint-Cado
Selon la légende, Saint-Cado voulait construire un pont pour relier l'île de la Ria d'Etel au pays. Mais faute de moyens, un jour, il fut visité par le diable. Ce dernier lui offrit son aide à condition qu'il reçoive l'âme de la première créature à traverser le pont.
Saint-Cado accepta et le démon créa la structure de pierre en une nuit. Tôt le matin, Saint-Cado a attiré un chat à travers le pont. Le diable ne s'y attendait pas, mais c'était comme ça !

Empruntez le sentier en contrebas de la chapelle et faites le tour de l'île à pied. Le circuit vous offre un joli point de vue sur la rivière d’Etel entre parcs ostréicoles, forêts et petites anses où naviguent des embarcations colorées.

Saint-Cado and its famous house with blue shutters
Before starting your walk, admire the famous little house with blue shutters on the rocky islet of Nichtarguer. Also known as the Oyster House, it was once the home of an oyster farm keeper and his family.

The legend of Saint-Cado
According to legend, Saint-Cado wanted to build a bridge to connect the island of Ria d'Etel to the country. But for lack of funds, one day he was visited by the devil. The latter offered his help on condition that he received the soul of the first creature to cross the bridge.
Saint-Cado agreed and the demon created the stone structure overnight. Early in the morning, Saint-Cado lured a cat across the bridge. The devil did not expect it, but it was like that!

Take the path below the chapel and go around the island on foot. The circuit offers you a nice view of the Etel river between oyster parks, forests and small coves where colorful boats sail.

J'ai commencé il y a quelques temps un album sur la gare des Guillemins colorée par Daniel Buren en cours de préparation, voilà une série de photos avec le travail terminé, j'espère ne pas vous lasser car je me suis bien amusé à jouer avec les lignes, les courbes et surtout dans ce cas les couleurs.

L’histoire du pont commence en 1878, lors de la troisième exposition universelle de Paris qui se tient sur le champ de Mars de mai à octobre. Une passerelle métallique réservée aux piétons est construite entre les 15e et 16e arrondissements en prenant appui sur la petite île aux Cygnes.
Quelques années plus tard, un concours vient pérenniser l’ouvrage: des travaux effectués entre 1903 et 1906 donnent naissance au pont tel que nous le connaissons aujourd’hui. Disposant de deux étages, il permet alors la traversée des voitures et des piétons au premier niveau et le passage des métros au deuxième étage. C’est en est fini de l’exclusivité piétonnière !
C’est Jean-Camille Formigé (1845-1926), architecte de la Ville de Paris, qui dirige les travaux de construction et de décoration du pont. Louis Biette, ingénieur, est également en charge du projet.
Le début du XXe siècle coïncide avec le développement rapide du métro parisien. Les prouesses techniques permettent de sortir le métro de terre et de lui faire traverser la Seine au sommet du pont. Les usagers et usagères peuvent alors profiter d’une vue incomparable sur la Dame de Fer.
Avec l’essor du 7e art, des appareils photos et du tourisme, le pont de Bir-Hakeim, de par sa localisation mais surtout grâce à son architecture, devient le chouchou des touristes et des artistes.
The history of the bridge begins in 1878, during the third Universal Exhibition in Paris which is held on the Champ de Mars from May to October. A metal footbridge reserved for pedestrians is built between the 15th and 16th arrondissements, resting on the small island of Swans.
A few years later, a competition came to perpetuate the work: work carried out between 1903 and 1906 gave birth to the bridge as we know it today. With two floors, it then allows the crossing of cars and pedestrians on the first level and the passage of metros on the second floor. This is the end of pedestrian exclusivity!
It was Jean-Camille Formigé (1845-1926), architect for the City of Paris, who directed the construction and decoration of the bridge. Louis Biette, engineer, is also in charge of the project.
The beginning of the 20th century coincides with the rapid development of the Paris metro. Technical prowess enabled the metro to be lifted from the ground and cross the Seine at the top of the bridge. Users can then enjoy an incomparable view of the Iron Lady.
With the rise of the 7th art, cameras and tourism, the Bir-Hakeim bridge, due to its location but above all thanks to its architecture, has become the darling of tourists and artists.

Retour à Saint Pons de Mauchiens deux mois après mes premières prises. Les petits ne sont pas encore sortis de leurs nids sous les tuiles canal des vieux toits. Pour les parents la chasse aux criquets et cigales commence tôt le matin !
Le Faucon crécerellette (Falco naumanni) est une petite espèce de rapaces très semblable au Faucon crécerelle mais plus svelte. Le mâle a la tête, la nuque, le croupion et la queue gris-bleu. Son manteau est roux et ses rémiges rectrices sont grises et se terminent par une barre noire. Cette barre noire se retrouve également chez la femelle. La femelle et les juvéniles ont un plumage entièrement brun tacheté et barré.
Return to Saint Pons de Mauchiens two months after my first shots. The little ones have not yet emerged from their nests under the channel tiles of the old roofs. For parents the hunt for locusts and cicadas starts early in the morning !
The lesser kestrel (Falco naumanni) is a small falcon. It is a small bird of prey, 27–33 cm (11–13 in) in length with a 63–72 cm (25–28 in) wingspan. It looks very much like the larger common kestrel but has proportionally shorter wings and tail. It shares a brown back and barred grey underparts with the larger species. The male has a grey head and tail like male common kestrels, but lacks the dark spotting on the back, the black malar stripe, and has grey patches in the wings. The female and young birds are slightly paler than their relative, but are so similar that call and structure are better guides than plumage.

I wanted to take better photos and after several intermediate technical steps I came up with the equipment I have today and the fascinating nature and bird photography...

Construction commenced in 1072, and completed in 1311, this building, at 520ft in height was claimed to have been the tallest building in the world at the time. It remained so until 1548 when the spire collapsed. It was not replaced.
The building was the home of one of the copies of the Magna Carta, but which is now held in nearby Lincoln Castle.

Rien de technique, il suffit d’avoir une bonne condition physique et une bonne paire de chaussures de marche pour évoluer en altitude.
La photo ci-dessus a été prise alors que je repartais du village d’Ulleri où je venais de passer la nuit dans une guest-house. Ulleri était notre dernière étape d’une randonnée en altitude de 10 jours.
Douze heures plus tard nous étions sur le bord de la route asphaltée où un taxi nous attendait pour rejoindre Pokhara.

Nothing technical, you just need to be in good physical condition and a good pair of walking shoes to move at altitude.
The photo above was taken as I was leaving the village of Ulleri where I had just spent the night in a guesthouse. Ulleri was our final stop on a 10 day high altitude hike. Twelve hours later we were on the asphalt roadside where a taxi was waiting for us to reach Pokhara.

Lately I have been parking the car along Blues Point Road, and walking down to the harbour.
A catamaran had just picked up more wedding guests from the McMahons Point Wharf, and was embarking on its dusk wedding cruise.
Meanwhile, the 'John Nutt' ferry - coming from Darling Harbour - was just about to dock at McMahons Point Wharf, to collect passengers going to Luna Park (Milsons Point) and then under the bridge to Circular Quay.
The 'John Nutt' is Sydney's newest ferry, commencing service in July, 2024. It is one of the new Parramatta River Class of catamarans. John Nutt was an engineer who was chiefly responsible for constructing Sydney's Opera House.

On a rainy Sept. 22, 2011, a pair of C44-9Ws lead a Quebec, North Shore & Labrador iron ore train through the loading loop and into the tipple at Carol Lake Mine near Labrador City, N.L. This gritty town in the far north is a challenge to get to, and at the time, lodging was hard to find due to the labor needed for an expansion under way at the mine. Both mine and railroad are operated by the Iron Ore Co. of Canada, which is in turn owned by international mining giant Rio Tinto. Labrador City is a mining town established by IOC when the mine opened in the 1950s.
This was tedious, tough and stressful. I only had one pumpkin so had to make it work. It is highly fragile.

A pair of climbers commencing one of the crack climbs on the Western Grit of Hen Cloud in the Staffordshire Peak District.
Excerpt of info from UKC: ‘The superb castellated buttresses of Hen Cloud offer some of grit's finest crack climbs, and these include routes which are amongst the longest anywhere on grit. There are even some genuine multi-pitch climbs to savour. Perched above a steep bank, the positions are superb as is the outlook but, despite all these positives, the crag is rarely crowded. The climbs cover the grade spectrum and like the nearby crag of the Roaches, there is an excellent selection of lower grade climbs.
Despite facing south, the crag is inclined to be green and lichenous, especially on the left (because of the grass ledges) and as such is not a good destination after damp weather. The crag is very exposed to the wind, and will catch any precipitation carried on Westerlies’.

This is a bronze statue of C.Y. O’Connor riding his horse into the sea south of Fremantle, Western Australia. O’Connor was the state’s Engineer-in-Chief, responsible for the design of Fremantle harbour and, notably, the construction of a fresh water supply pipeline to Kalgoorlie, 530 km to the east. Commenced in 1896, few believed the pipeline could be built and O’Connor was hounded by the press and politicians, until in 1902, he rode his horse into the ocean at this spot and shot himself. The pipeline was completed less than a year later.
In 1806, the German traveler, Ulrich Jasper Seetzen, came across and wrote about the ruins he recognized. In 1885, the Ottoman authorities directed the Circassian immigrants who were mainly of peasant stock to settle in Jerash, and distributed arable land among them.
The ancient city has been gradually revealed through a series of excavations which commenced in 1925, and continue to this day.
Junagarh Fort is a fort in the city of Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. The fort was originally called Chintamani and was renamed Junagarh or "Old Fort" in the early 20th century when the ruling family moved to Lalgarh Palace outside the fort limits. It is one of the few major forts in Rajasthan which is not built on a hilltop. The modern city of Bikaner has developed around the fort.
The fort complex was built under the supervision of Karan Chand, the Prime Minister of Raja Rai Singh, the sixth ruler of Bikaner, who ruled from 1571 to 1611 AD. Construction of the walls and associated moat commenced in 1589 and was completed in 1594. It was built outside the original fort of the city, about 1.5 kilometres from the city centre. Some remnants of the old fort are preserved near the Lakshmi Narayan temple.
Historical records reveal that despite the repeated attacks by enemies to capture the fort, it was not taken, except for a lone one-day occupation by Kamran Mirza. Kamran was the second son of the Mughal Emperor Babur who attacked Bikaner in 1534, which was then ruled by Rao Jait Singh. In the battle, the Mughals were defeated by Rathors. Kamran then returned to Lahore.
The 5.28 hectares large fort precinct is studded with palaces, temples and pavilions. These buildings depict a composite culture, manifest in the mix of architectural styles.

The five-storey tower mill at Great Bircham in North Norfolk dates from 1846, though there was an earlier post mill on the site that was demolished to make way for it. The new mill worked for at least 70 years, but had ceased working by 1922. It has since had several owners, including the late Queen. According to Wikipedia the Grade II-listed mill was purchased by Mr Roger Wagg from the Queen in 1976, and a major restoration commenced in 1977. Together with its adjacent visitor facilities it is now open to the public from April until the end of September.

Prior to the ULEZ back when it commenced in April 2019, route 2 usually would have 1 or 2 Ts out during a weekday morning. Since then, route 2 hasn't seen any ADL vehicles other than Wrights.
HT7 from the 202 gained back in September of this year, has been seen working on the route 2 during most of the morning, which was pictured during my short break. Having never properly photographed the route 2, I did venture to the stands here in person.
The little of that short break got me lucky, as this was the last trip before getting substituted for an HV - HT7 then went to it's allocated route 202 later in the afternoon.
