The Apādana palace is a large ceremonial building, likely an audience hall with an associated portico. The audience hall itself is hypostyle in its plan, meaning that the roof of the structure is supported by columns. Apādana is the Persian term equivalent to the Greek hypostyle (Ancient Greek: ὑπόστυλος hypóstȳlos). The footprint of the Apādana is c. 1,000 square meters; originally 72 columns, each standing to a height of 24 meters, supported the roof (only 14 columns remain standing today). The column capitals assumed the form of either twin-headed bulls (above), eagles or lions, all animals represented royal authority and kingship.

The columns within Tewkesbury Abbey are remarkably plain and unadorned, and support simple Romanesque round arches.

Statute of Christopher Columbus, its that way to America

DOT Art partnered with the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District to present a cylindrical sculpture by graphic-artist Jenny Hung titled, “Norwood Column” on the sidewalk triangle on East Mosholu Parkway South and Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Inspired by Morris advertising columns used throughout Europe in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the column-like sculpture features custom-designed colorful posters displaying content collected from residents of the Norwood, Bronx area. Community members were invited to submit responses via online submission portals and in-person to a variety of questions about the neighborhood. Sample questions included, “Where do you go in Norwood to get your favorite food?, What’s your favorite park in Norwood and why?, What’s your favorite historical face about Norwood?”. Responses were compiled into a collection of graphic, poster-style images that were adhered to the cylindrical sculpture. Each poster’s custom-designed typeface includes font pulled from local advertisements, signs, shops and storefronts. The set of posters will be refreshed three times throughout the 11 month installation period.

The most popular building material for roofs in down town Reykjavik, if not the whole of Iceland, are painted metal sheets, folded in regular wave patterns, I don't know the name for it in English.

This image was my 1st attempt at getting in to "The Safe" group through the Deleteme! group. If you can tolerate harsh words on your work and hones negative oppinion, I can recommend it. It is great fun.

Everywhere you go, everything you see in Venice is classic and old...the input on your mind is hard to discribe...

after a while you need to start seeing the small picture, so one day we went out with our small cameras and shot square format B&W....this is one of mine.

By pulling the column back it can then be raised if necessary to give more leg room. It could come further out than this, but the Cabrio design tends to place the steering wheel too close to the driver and getting it further away is the issue.

Bet no one noticed the massive red penguin in this shot...

Every now and then I like to revisit old 'throwaway' shots. More than anything, I like that it allows me to think about what I was trying to get from a shot and how I would approach it differently.

On this one, the only workable solution for what I was trying to get would be a wider angle lens. The +2 EV was intentional.
