Nighttime falls on Stacksteads
It rained quite heavy last night, I stood under the pergola to take this shot.
The light from our security lights / cams, and the dark night combo worked nicely n my favour.

We saw the very worst in human beings this past Friday.
But after watching the news tonight, I thought we also saw the very best.
I was struck by the fellow in the cafe who put himself in front of a woman as a shield. He died, she lived because of him.
Or the man who pulled the pregnant woman who was hanging out the window of the second floor of the theatre. He put himself in potential danger to help a fellow human being.
There may be rough days ahead, but thankfully I think there is enough who rise above to get us through.
The highlight of the day - never photographed him on this perch with a fish, sadly. Nonethless, my first try at birds from a hide, so a success as far as I am concerned
Colours not the cirrect blue - seems to be down to the light at the time
Having recently uploaded a couple of photos of thermal pools taken within the old Faithful complex in Yellowstone Park it got me thinking about other locations where I have seen similar sights. Iceland sprang to mind but New Zealand even more so.
This photo which shows just some of the range of colours caused by such activity was taken within the Wai-o-Tapu reserve close to Rotorua on the north island in New Zealand.

Practice to get new greys from other colours. I used Mars Black, Lemon Yellow Deep, Opera Rose, and French Ultramarine .

They will be moved back onto the beach in better weather.
I see the colours change every year in early October in the part of Ontario where I live. Farther north, the change in the colours occurs earlier. Right now the air is dry and the wind is cool but the sunlight makes the air warm at certain times as well. The smell in the air is vaguely that of winter but not really winter. For me this is the best time of year in this region in particular for hiking.
I shot this in various ways including with a flash and in monochrome, but I decided to keep this version. For me the vivid colours and the grain in the photo are appealing. The lens I used could not go deeper than f/22, even so the focus is not too bad to my eye. The image is direct from the camera except for conversion to jpeg. I hope you like the result.
It was just a dream day for colours and smells as walked above the main road. The vessel out at sea was in my eyeline as it seemed it was stationery.

The Virginia Creeper leaf had conveniently fallen right next to a bit of hydrangea that had previously been white. Always nice to find bits of colour where you least expect it!
