Pettah side of Colombo from Bambalapitiya. Thanks to My friend Rasika who provided the chance for shoot.
Colombo is a huge, sprawling city, which can be visited any time of year due to its tropical climate. The traffic can feel somewhat overwhelming at first but it is organised and much more manageable when compared to other major cities of South and Southeast Asia. On a clear day, it’s difficult to miss the Lotus Tower dominating Colombo’s skyline.
COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - SEP 20, 2016: Colombo Sarees Market is a very crowded place at Second Cross Street, Colombo-11, Sri Lanka.
After the original Seema Malaka temple had sunk into the south beira lake, the government commissioned Geoffrey Bawa to design a replacement in the 1970s. Bawa, known as the founder of Tropical Modernism, is Sri Lanka’s most famous architect and was one of the most influential in Asia. His stylish creations can be found throughout Colombo, and Seema Malaka is one of the highlights.

Confeitaria Colombo is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, one of the main tourist attractions in Downtown area.
This a recent photograph after the reform of the skyline. Many thanks to Deise Novakoski and Renato Freire.
The bakery was founded in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants Joaquim Borges de Meirelles and José Manuel Lebrão, with a long list of celebrity clients from the Brazilian society.
Its architecture and environment give an idea of what have been the Belle Époque in the capital of the Republic. Between 1912 and 1918 the halls inside the bakery have been reformed, with a touch of Art Nouveau, with huge crystal mirrors brought from Antwerp, surrounded by elegant friezes carved rosewood. The wooden furniture inside were carved at the same time by the craftsman Antonio Borsoi.
In 1922 its facilities were expanded with the construction of a second floor with a tea room. An opening in the roof of the ground floor to see the skylight of the tea room, decorated with beautiful stained glass.

"Ultraman" is an alien hero who battled invading Kaijû (big monsters) every week in a Japanese TV drama series in 1960s. Its sequels have been produced intermittently until present.
This painting, which is apparently not by Japanese artist, was on the wall of the five-star(!) Galadari Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which was an unlikely place to see him. In the painting, defeated Kaijûs are celebrating his birthday (^^;)
It is the funniest painting I have ever seen.
This is a northward view of Colombo from an office building on the Galle Road, which is the main coastal road for Colombo. Lawned open space in the photo is called Galle Face Green.
White building north of the green near the seashore is The Kingsburry hotel (It was Continental Hotel when this photo was taken). It was a target of 2019 Easter Bombing, a series of suicide bombings that killed 267 people in total. It was by a local Islamist group in connection with the Islamic State.
White high-rise building near the Kingsburry Hotel is the Bank of Ceylon building. It was the target of LTTE (Tamil Tigers) bomb attack in 1996, which killed 91 people and injured more than 1400.
Tall twin-tower building beside the Bank of Ceylon building is World Trade Center. It was a target of the suicide air raid by LTTE in February 2009 although Sri Lankan army barely prevented a repeat of the tragedy at the building with the same name in NYC. A colleague of mine was staying in Galle Face Hotel at the time of air raid and told me the details.
A Chinese construction company is currently reclaiming the sea beside The Kingsburry hotel to develop Port City Colombo. It should spoil the beautiful cityscape of Colombo.
I am sad to tell you so many negative stories about this beautiful coastal city. Still, it is a city you should visit.
