Coldwater Spring is sacred ground to several native peoples. As I understand the history & legend, this place - with an oak savannah & prairie land - is considered the center of the earth for the Dakota, & their birthplace.

We spent the night in Coldwater Michigan. Before we headed out of town we took a look a the train station in town.
This is the pumphouse structure at the spring at Camp Coldwater (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Coldwater); probably the 2nd or 3rd area of non-Native settlement in Minnesota circa 1820. This area is located within the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area www.nps.gov/miss/index.htm

I love the reflection in the spring water and the out-of-focus water lily flower in the right foreground.
Commercial buildings at 76-78 West Chicago Street, Coldwater, Michigan. The building on the right is home to Rachel's Salon and Spa, the building in the middle is home to the Scott Fair Insurance Agency, and the building on the left holds the Elite Blendz barbershop.
This clock tower sits in front of the Branch County Courthouse in Coldwater, Michigan. The original
1887 courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1972. The current courthouse (glimpsed at the right) was
built in 1976. The clock tower was dedicated in 1987 and houses the clock and finial from the
original courthouse.
I photographed this on April 18, while driving to South Bend, Indiana to board the train for my visit
with flickr contact John H. Bowman and his wife Ruth Ann in Richmond, Virginia.
