Also known as Market D, this building - a former part of the much larger Smithfield Market, much of which is still in operation - combines the fish market - which appears to have been in use until around ten or fifteen years ago - with a refrigeration building known as the Red House, apparently the oldest surviving purpose-built refrigeration unit. That section appears to have been abandoned for at least thirty years or so.
Apologies for the terrible photograph, but I just love this old sign!
ThermoAssist, designed for reach trucks dedicated to freezer environments, includes pad heaters for the back and arm, a console enclosure and a mast air deflector that redirects airflow away from the operator. Additionally, ThermoAssist+ provides warm air to the multi-task handle and steer tiller through adjustable vents. A leg and foot warmer, available on certain models, directs heat at the operator’s feet and lower legs for added comfort. Learn more at www.crown.com.

They Basically Flash Freeze and Fumigate Imported Produce. If I remember correctly, they said the temperature inside was near Minus 40 Degrees Fahrenheit. I was surprised to find this railway at the bottom of a steep drop, completely surrounded by the building. This gap would have been necessary when the building was constructed, as the steam trains in use required ventilation along any sizable tunnel.
The fish market is on the right and centre of the photograph, while the cold storage (Red House) is on the left.
What you don't see in this photo is another Metra train going in the opposite direction of the one that's visible.

He began writing tags in the early 1990's and has remained one of the most well known and celebrated underground writers ever since. Despite his underground fame, Ichabod has never come into the mainstream and claimed fame from his work and his identity remains unknown.

Published in January 1894 by The Historical Publishing Company, author J. W. Buel, this book contains 300 photographs of every aspect of the fair.
The World's Fair: Columbian Exposition (also known as the Chicago World's Fair) was a world's fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World in 1492. At the core of the fair was an area that quickly became known as the White City for its buildings with white stucco siding and its streets illuminated by electric lights.
I adore this sweet, little Eskimo on her flying snowflake. I didn't know this sign lit up at night and it may have recently been fixed. I'm so grateful this hand-cut plastic sign even exists and hope it sticks it out a while longer.
