An Airman with an Air National Guard security forces unit takes the plunge for cold-water immersion Jan. 27, 2023, as part of a 16-day Cold-Weather Operations Course led by the Air Force at Fort McCoy, Wis. More than 50 Airmen were participating in the training from across the Air Force. Besides cold-water immersion, the Airmen also learned about cold-weather shelters, survival techniques, cold-weather uniform wear, and more. Fort McCoy has a long history of supporting cold-weather training. Eighty years prior to this training, in January 1943, the installation hosted winter training for the Army's 76th Division prior to the Division deploying to Europe to fight in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. The cold weather brought several unusual birds, including this Dipper, to this suburban stretch of the ELY River, in Fairwater, Cardiff (at Birdies Lane).

Unfortunately the bird turned its back to me as I pressed the shutter, and then flew too far to photograph.

On the same day 3 Water Rails and a Goosander were present.

Last few days of cold weather has given the snow fields a big dump. #australia #nsw #australiagram #australiagram_nsw #instralia #instaozzie #seeaustralia #mytravelgram #travelingram #snow #winter #mountains

Two de-icer vehicles work on a C-5M Super Galaxy after the aircraft sat outside for more than 24 hours in temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees during a cold weather test Dec. 14 at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. This is the first upgraded C-5M to go through cold-weather testing. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Jonathan Snyder)

Our 4 bird feeders were busy non-stop today. Constant bird activity.

My first sets of photos in NY. Can't bear the cold weather outside to shoot. These are some of my snapshots during my first day. Still adjusting to the cold weather. I am terribly missing my sweetie pie Demelza :(

When the weather gets colder, the lighter weight racing style shoes get kicked under the bed and get replaced with these Keens. They are too warm for more temperate weather, but perfect for days in the 30's and 40's.

I thought this snowman stamper was appropriate for the cold weather we have been having in Pennsylvania!

Air Force Flight Test Museum

This high altitude, cold weather flight suit is labeled "EXPERIMENTAL TEST SAMPLE, Aero Medical Laboratory, Air Material Command". Fellow test pilot, Brig. Gen. Frank K. Everest, had used this flight suit first and then passed it along to Capt. Apt. Everest's name was found written on the collar tag and evidence of a longer name tape can be seen on the upper left hand side of the suit where Capt. Apt's is now sewn on. This flight suit was donated to the Air Force Flight Test Museum by the Apt family.
