A present from my dad . He is keeping up the tradition that my granddad had done for many years. He would give us old coins and commemorative troy oz silver. for birthdays and holidays.

For me, coins with holes in the middle are kind of unusual and.... a bit crazy.

My input to "CURRENCY AND / OR BANKNOTES" theme.

Over on LEGO Ideas they're having a LEGO Moments in Space Competition at the moment.

It's worth checking out, as there are some fabulous prizes on offer, and some awesome entries already as well. This is mine, just a super quick mini-build loosely based on a coin-operated ride.

The cool thing is that it moves when you turn the little hand crank at back. I should probably grab video of it in action.

AT the Wheaton Arts Festival of Fine Crafts, Allen Feinberg has been at the beginning of the line of artists as soon as you enter the gates. From Highland Park, NJ he crafts fabulous jewelry-earrings, pins, pendants-from coins around the globe. I always stop to catch up with him as over the years I have collected many of his pieces and we both have been in the education field. I caught Allen yawning as I took my first photo at the fair this year. Later I photographed him working on a new piece. You can see some of his pendants made from coins on the display.

- Lake Mývatn ("Lake of the Flies or Midges") is located in the north of Iceland in the vicinity of the Krafla volcano.

- The lake, the third natural body of water in the country, remains frozen for six months of the year. The name of the lake comes from the swarms of insects (Chironomidae) which feed the birds that inhabit the edges of the lake in summer. The area is known to bird watchers and botanists for many species of ducks and other birds that nest there from April.

- As for midges ... it's a reality, you absolutely have to protect yourself either with a special lotion (Skin Si Soft Avon) or a net on your head ...

- Among other many birds but often far on the lake: the Phalaropes with narrow beak are the easiest to approach - the various ducks - the filigules with collars - the song swans, Common Loon etc ...
