英名 : Water Cock
秧雞科: Family Rallidae , L 35 cm, 不普遍種 夏候鳥。
屬於小至中型的水邊鳥類，體型肥胖，尾羽短而常往上翹，腳略長，趾甚長。腳為黃綠色，繁殖期雄鳥的腳為紅色。眼睛虹膜為褐色。全身黑色或皮黃褐色。嘴形短，雄鳥嘴為黃綠色，上嘴基部為紅色；雌鳥嘴為褐色。下體有細密橫紋。額腹大致為白色，下腹及尾下覆羽栗紅色。繁殖期雄鳥體羽為黑色，具有紅色的尖形角狀額甲。
董雞俗稱「田洞」，棲息於田野，繁殖期雄鳥發出「董--董--董」極笨重之鳴聲，夜裡尤甚，因而得名，為鄉土味濃厚的水禽。董雞棲身於水生植物叢生之沼澤或稻田中，以水生昆蟲或植物為食，單獨或成對生活，白天隱伏於草叢，只能聽見清晰響亮之「董--董--董」鳴聲。
The Watercock Gallicrex cinerea is a waterbird in the rail and crake family Rallidae. It is the only member of the genus Gallicrex. Their breeding habitat is swamps across south Asia from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka to south China, Japan and Indonesia. They nest in a dry location on the ground in marsh vegetation, laying 3-6 eggs. These large rails are mainly permanent residents throughout their range.
The body of this rail is flattened laterally to allow easier passage through the reeds or undergrowth. It has long toes and a short tail. Female birds are smaller at 36 cm, and are dark brown above and paler below. the plumage is streaked and barred with darker markings. The bill is yellow and the legs are green. The downy chicks are black, as with all rails. Watercock are quite secretive, but are sometimes seen out in the open. They are noisy birds, especially at dawn and dusk, with a loud, gulping call.

Concert lighting always provides a great source of contrasting colour. The lighting at Jarvis Cocker's concert was simple but incredibly effective. I didn't manage to get the shot that I wanted but this was my favourite, camera shake and all. For a slightly less blurry shot have a look at this one.
Note to self: always take a good camera to a concert no matter how much you think it will get in the way of enjoying the concert.
Our little bantam cock goes for our big cockerel from behind. "Scrap! Scrap! Scrap!" the other hens seemed to cry.
