Former Burnley pub the Fighting Cocks that became Italian restaurant Ninos is sold
A former Burnley pub, that was transformed into a successful Italian restaurant before it suddenly closed around four years ago, has been sold.

The landmark building in Cliviger’s Red Lees Road was sold by Padiham based Whiteacres Property Ltd in a deal that was agreed before Christmas and completed last week.
There is no guide price for the property but a spokesperson for Praxis said it has turned down early offers of more than £500,000.

A former restaurant and pub in Cliviger has gone on sale and the real estate agency in charge said it has been “inundated with offers”.
The former Nino’s Italian restaurant on Red Lees Road is on the market and Praxis Real Estate Management has been appointed as the lenders.
A spokesperson said the company has been “inundated” with offers for the site, which was formerly known as the Fighting Cocks pub before opening as into a restaurant in 2012.
According to the company, interested parties have proposed turning the site into housing, retail and reopening it as a pub or restaurant.
A spokesperson said: ”We are not quoting a guide price but we have turned down early offers over £500,000.
The pub was bought from Enterprise Inns by Ignazio Pillitteri, who also opened Nino’s in Bacup Road, Rawtenstall.
The building previously housed the Ridoy Indian restaurant and bar.

This chicken was following us - probably after some grain but the goats had eaten that, bag and all - so it seemed a shame not to take his picture.

This image was scanned from a glass negative in the Josiah Cocking Photographic Archive. The archive was transferred to Cultural Collections and stored in archives at the Auchmuty Library, University of Newcastle, together with other archival material from the Cocking family.
Josiah Cocking (1867-1960) was a published Newcastle poet, a coal miner and often wrote for local Socialist newspapers. Cocking was a member of the Australian Socialist League and advocate of industrial unionism and Industrial Workers of the World.
Born in South Australia of Cornish descent, poverty frequently surrounded the Cocking household. Three brothers settled in Wallsend in 1886, Josiah gained work in the mines outside the local area. By 1911 he built a house on Billygoat Hill and had five children. In 1914 the family moved near the steelworks.
The photographic collection contains some images of Wallsend, Plattsburg and Pit town, looking east from Billygoat Hill, steam engines and coal trucks. There are also photographs of steam and electric trams. There are also a number of photographs taken of friends and family members.
Part of this archive contains diaries and copies of his writings. Papers include his description of the Australian Socialist League in Wallsend (1893-1896), and his diary ceases and resumes in various years, however is a valuable source of historical information about Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
