Sunset photography can be a crap shoot based upon the cloud formations near sunset. I've witnessed promising clouds only to have them totally dissipate at sunset making a long drive home. But the times when the clouds cooperate it becomes magic.

A stylish peacock takes part in the River Lights Winter Festival by the Detroit River in Amherstburg, Ontario. Hoping to return to catch reflections off some snow if the weather cooperates!

I noticed yesterday that this bird was frequently perched adjacent to my hummingbird feeder so last evening I decided to try for photos. He cooperated and in fact landed on this perch and on a shrub nearby a number of times between chasing rivals away. Most of the time they only land on my feeders or inside tree branches where they are mostly hidden. IMG_2967

I've been busy recently and the weather was not cooperating, that's why I did not photograph as much as usual.

These are tiny, cute apples, that I found in a park.

I hope you'll enjoy this simple photo :)

Birch Creek Ranch State Park, Oregon

Every cloud completely disappeared by the time golden and blue hours arrived. So here is a daylight shot of the ranch at Birch Creek on the Owyhee River.

This is a popular take out location for river rafters on the Owyhee. Highlights of this trip include a nail biting decent into the canyon while trying not to ding, dent or otherwise wreck my wife's suburban destroyer (Ford Explorer), Deciding to stand on a GIANT ant hill to take a leak and oh yeah.. the rattlers were out. On the upside, the bugs weren't too bad. It all would have been worth it, if the sky would have just cooperated with me a bit more.

All that being said, it is remote, rugged and beautiful country. It just wasn't my day LOL.

I was out on the Great Salt Lake last night and wasn't sure if the sky would cooperate. When I left home, it was mostly cloudy, but weather radar showed hope.

And then it happened, the sky lit up. I was sending iPhone shots to my good friend Roy L. Fuchs who is a great Utah landscape photographer. I think he was jealous :-)

The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the shot

Sculpted by none other than Mother Nature's hand through centuries of craftwork.

I made this shot last month during the Lincoln County Photo Festival. The workshop was scheduled for a Saturday night with a core rising at around 10:15 and the moon to soon follow at 10:45, that leaves us about a half hour to get a shot provided the clouds cooperated. I'm always at odds with the weather because I'm usually wanting the best of both worlds, clouds in the morning and a clear sky at night than cloud up again in the mooring for sunrise. I know it's a tall order and it's only happened a few times over the last three years but I'm usually ecstatic to get two out of three. The shoot went well and the participants where happy with the class but I felt the best chances for a good comp and position would be the following night, so I decided to stay one more day and return by myself and take another stab at it. I like this location because I can back my car up with the hatch up while taking this photo on a comfy pad with a cold drink to my left and my iPod to the right. Who could ask for more.

Halfmoon Bay is a wonderful and somewhat secluded area. In this shot, I figured turning about might render a different perspective. Sure enough, as the sun was setting, it lit up a small privately owned area. The guardrail on the pier is a wonderful yellow so it served as my leading line. The clouds cooperated, delivering the contrasting blue that helped the image along.

The sunsets here have been a bit reluctant lately, either too many clouds or not enough... but at least this one cooperated and the geese cruised right into the light.

Car season officially starts on April 2nd here in Pittsburgh with the Pittsburgh Cars 'N' Coffee season opener. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we have a huge showing of cars.

The Moon and Sun cooperate for some great light in Tost Uul Mongolia.

During my stay at Galveston, it was a goal to photograph the Pleasure Pier with a dramatic sky. Every morning I would get up before sunrise and head down to the pier. The weather didn't really cooperate until the final day of my visit. It seems Mother Nature was saving the best for last. Galveston, Texas, USA, January 2023

Thank you very much for your comments, they are always very much appreciated.

Winter seems to have officially made it's entry allover Quebec last night and today, the snow was still falling quite heavily when I woke up around 6:00 am. It's always a magical moment this first snow and it often gives very beautiful images when the birds are willing to cooperate that is. Rather slow morning around my feeders except of course for the tireless Black-capped Chickadees and the Blue Jays, feeder thieves by excellence. The light was very dim, because of the cloud cover and the snow. Here are a few pictures from today.

Six blocks of downtown Skagway, Alaska are designated as a National Historic District. Within this zone, private, state, city, and federal interests have cooperated to preserve or restore the late 1890s atmosphere.

Skagway is one of the most fascinating towns in all of Alaska. Its rich history and ties to the gold rush

It's home to gold-rush-era buildings, now preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. I always have difficulty photographing the few wintering Eurasian Wigeons in the region. They are challenging to isolate because they are usually among a flock of American Wigeons. I finally found one that was willing to cooperate.

Une espèce que je trouve difficile à isoler et photographier. Seulement quelques individus passent l'hiver dans la région et ils sont habituellement parmi les Canards d'Amérique. En voici un qui a finalement coopéré.

This is a close up of a beautiful male queen butterfly. You can tell the difference between the males and females by the pheromone pouches (dots) that the males have on their lower wings near the abdomen. You can tell the difference in monarchs in this manner as well. The females do not have those dots.

It would be nice if butterflies would cooperate a bit more when being photographed. I was hoping for a more open winged image to show off those dots a bit better. In this image they are visible but the upper wings are touching them.

Queens are not often seen in the yard, the monarchs chase them off promptly when are noticed. I'd say this is because they use the same host plant (milkweed) and their young will have to compete for food.

I hope your day is full of the little things that bring you joy. Happy snapping to all.

Today, I'll post some shots I did to test my new Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary. You know how it is... when we look forward to test a new equipment, sometimes our models don't cooperate much. The morning didn't start very well, just a few shots at a distance, but I finally managed to get a little closer to a few birds. In this shot, by distraction, I have not used the entire focal length of the lens, just my old 500mm :)

Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado - Portugal

A very cooperating creature. That is, until it flew straight against me (I do not know if to check me out, or as some sort of defense mechanism). It bumped into my cheek and flew right back to the twig.

The sunrise decided to cooperate on this morning we were at Artists' Point in Grand Marais. I had arrived before sunrise trying to find a good spot to watch for the sunrise. It was kind of a treacherous walk along the rocks in the dark.

Thankfully I was treated to some nice color in the sky.

Surprisingly very nice camera... Only thing it works well if the Subject cooperates 😂

But certainly nice one for taking snaps of flowers.

In case if you don't know our parrots... we have two parrots + two budgies (budgies, see below ↓)

Blue parrot (♀) and yellow parrot(♂) are supposed to be a couple and should love each other but they don't.

They start the day with a big air-battle... and all day.

Only the time they cooperate (and often quiet) is when they have a master plan in their mind. It happens when people are not watching. And it is very annoying for us.

Window Trail at Badlands National Park. I have been thinking about this shot for awhile and this morning the sky finally cooperated.

Parliament House, Canberra, Australia.

Canberra is a strange place - purpose built to be Australia's capital city, located between Sydney and Melbourne. It is filled with monolithic architectural structures that I find fascinating - this is one of the large 'arms' of Parliament House and this runner just went through my frame as I was composing the brutalistic architecture. The birds also decided to cooperate.

Normally I would edit an image like this using LR or PS, but i'm waiting for a few hours at Canberra Airport and just used simple editing software on my laptop to get it up on Flickr.

This youngster was very friendly and cooperated nicely.

Mill Creek Marsh, Secaucus NJ.

I was in Pittsburgh last weekend and really enjoyed photographing the city! I'm a big Steelers fan but hadn't been to the 'Burgh for about six years, so this was a special treat for me since I wasn't into photography during my last trip.

This was taken Sunday morning at the fountain at Point State Park. The fountain hadn't been turned on yet so I was able to get some nice reflections in the pool. The sunrise cooperated with some lovely pre-dawn colors, too!

Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and a photographer's dream. I hope to post more photos from my trip soon.

Have a great day!

Once in a great while the photons cooperate with our desires.

A night spent off trial in Badlands National Park very much instilled the thought of being transported to some distant alien world. Thankfully one with an atmosphere compatible with this organism.

Thank you for viewing.

A few fallen by the wayside with a visiting insect on the same slippery slope I was on. Branches catching in my hair and spiders crawling on my hand plus no way was my tripod going to cooperate so this is hand held at f/4 at 55mm using a Nikon Nikkor Micro Ais 55mm 2.9 lens with a shutter speed of 1/125 ans iso up at 2000 so used a noise reduction editor...

Took a chance on the weather cooperating this morning, so I ventured down to the Fenwick-Hollowell Wetlands Trail. Started raining as I was taking this shot, right before the real color kicked off. I like the moodiness of it.

Xojo rarely cooperates with a photoshoot, but I quite liked this one - HMBT!

I originally wanted to use this photo for the Happy Caturday group last weekend for the theme "Glamorous" but then didn't post anything as I realized that I wouldn't have time to comment. As Cleo cooperated nicely and always looks quite elegant with her tinsel scarf, I post the photo today when I will hopefully find the time to comment at least on a few of your photos.

Took this shot this morning just before going out to feed the horses, when I first got up it didn't look like the morning sun and light was going ot cooperate at all. So when this started to develope the Pup and I ran out with the camera and had to give it a try .

Hope you all have a great weekend tomorrow as I'll be off on a course for the day for work.

I should mention that one of my horses was looking over my shoulder as I took this shot

Don't be afraid to hit "L"

Off to work, hopefully will finish catching up tonight, that is if my computer decides to cooperate.

Have a wonderful and enjoyable day everyone.

RKO_7482. One could probably use this image and add text for many situations!? 😁

I took this image in May this year while preparing for some images of new borns in the month thereafter. However, the weather didn't really cooperate in the following weeks and too many people visited this location. So I decided to skip my plan. Maybe next year on a more isolated/unknown location!

Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo - Portugal

Around 400.000 people from within The Netherlands as well as abroad visit this picturesque town every year. Why is that?

For it’s historical meaning. The city walks. The special shops and restaurants. Terraces. To wander around over the city walls. To enjoy a wonderful day. But … a large number of visitors does have another specific reason to pay a visit to Heusden. The city houses various art galleries and many artists are living and working here. Heusden is a town for art lovers as well!

Different cultural events do take place frequently, e.g. the Art Biennale Heusden. And every year the special and well known performances of the Matthäus Passion, attract many visitors

10 Local gallery owners decided that this should not be all. Their decision to start cooperating was the beginning of even more cultural activities (see “agenda”) and to mark Heusden as a real gallery city

Do you like art? Or do you like to become an art lover?

The galleries of Gallery City Heusden will introduce themselves to you here and invite you to pay a visit. Be welcome!

~Brady, age 3

This week's entry for "52 Weeks for Dogs".

Although it really should be of Brady alone -- I couldn't resist this one of the two of them.

Also, I was issued a personal challenge to get a shot of Brady outside - but the weather (and my schedule) this week did not cooperate.

Finally, I'm posting late and will most likely not be able to see your new images until tomorrow.

So there. Hope you have a great night!

Here's another old shot from last fall. My Dad had been after me for a couple years to get some photos of the autumn colors at Lake Anna. I finally decided to get up one morning and head over, hoping for one of those spectacular sunrises. Unfortunately, nature didn't cooperate, but I like this photo anyway.

This was just before people started boating on the lake that day, so the waters were nice and calm. Just after this, it was boat after boat after boat, so reflection shots weren't possible.

Fortunately, Dad was pleased with this. :)

So let's head into our communities and lift others up up up.

Despite to be seeking all this week a good catch of Rubio stretching for the weekly theme in the "Happy Caturday" group, he did'n want to cooperate.

Anyway, we wish everyone a very Happy Caturday

Rena did cooperate with the Happy Caturday theme of "Brands" but she really didn't like and won't play with this new toy which I thought was wildly exciting. She pulled off the fluffy, catnip laced tail and that was about it.

Happy Caturday to everybody !!

Wood Ducks have made Mud Lake their home for several years, returning to breed in significant numbers. Their breeding patterns - mating cycles, and plumage peaks - have become a part of the changing seasons for local birders.

A very late fall mating behaviour demonstration coincided with their pairing for winter, and the sun and the last of the maple and birch foliage cooperated. I spent a couple of hours watching the males beating the water with their wings, attracting the attention of some females.

Much as I try to lie down level with the surface of the water when I photograph ducks, the colours on the water and the blues on the male’s back were essential. So I am lying down, but propped up on my elbows to get all of those details in the frame.

5 years ago I failed to get a full sun shot at a spot I wanted badly, and when the weather cooperated when I returned this year, other factors arose. With big fires near Edson to the east, smoke took place of the clouds and created their own unique mood, but just not quite the mood I was hoping for. With the sun falling fast and the shadows growing fast, Q117 drifts over the causeway with a long train of containers.

Well, it wasn't really a "flyby" - more like a hop to the next choice bloom. Sea lavender target with those California poppies in the background. Yes, I was purposely trying to line up the poppies. Bees didn't necessarily cooperate but this one nailed it.

This is a Weimaraner living in the neighbourhood where my Portuguese cousins live near Sintra. He 'cooperates' as my photographic model by allowing me a photo each time I visit. See the first comment box below for a couple of other portraits taken in other years.
