I very rarely get out into the Peak District in these conditions so made a special effort yesterday. The aim was to spend some time amongst the trees and try to find some simpler compositions - with the mist helping to clear the background of clutter.
The cloud base was actually quite high up, so only once I got out of the top of Padley Gorge was it possible to do this - but once there I like to think I made the most of it. This set of photos consists of pretty much every single photo I took up there (I've only left 3 out, for now) - so I am more than happy with my success rate (I would worry that I'm becoming one of those photographers who looks calm and collected... a bit pretentious, looking down on those who don't know the one and only composition they want weeks beforehand... but I'm sure the next sunrise will fix that - leaving me running around like a headless chicken again).

4th day of journey - At Metropolitan pub, near Baker Street. London, England.
J D Wetherspoon pubs have a standard pub menu throughout the country and serve a variety of low priced cask ales, having over 650 Cask Marque accredited houses. There is often a local ale available. Pubs in the chain generally do not play background music, and usually do not have televisions or screen live sports or news and when there is a television, the sound is muted with subtitles displayed instead.
Many of the features aimed for in Wetherspoon pubs, such as quiet bars and reasonably-priced lunches, are influenced by George Orwell's essay The Moon Under Water, in which Orwell described his concept of the perfect pub. Several Wetherspoon-owned pubs bear the name "The Moon Under Water".
Many of the pubs are in large converted buildings, such as cinemas, banks, churches, supermarkets, swimming baths or railway stations.
The decor and fittings tend to be in a faux-Victorian public house style with the addition of photos of the local area and information boards concerning local history. They take pride in the standard of decor in the toilets, some of which have won national awards.
Since November 2006, some Wetherspoon pubs have offered free Wi-Fi internet access via The Cloud based on availability. Many pubs have Itbox quiz machines.

Aparador / Wardrobe
Possibly a Vestry Cabinet
Attributed as Spanish Colonial
Late 19th century
Mahogany
Stained in the dark brown finish favored by Filipino craftsmen.
A Spanish Colonial (Filipino?) Mahogany wardrobe made in the late 19th century. The the foliate-carved crest above a conforming case fitted with two doors, opening to a hanging space on one side and drawers to the other, the whole elaborately carved with floral and foliate patterns. The case is raised on four heavily carved, cabriolet legs terminating in paw feet resting on a cloud base (an oriental motif not usually found on South American colonial cabinetry). This strange cloud-base motif is the basis for the possible Philippine attribution.

The HOBOnet TEROS 21 is a wireless sensor that works with the HOBOnet system to measure both soil temperature and soil water potential, a more accurate way to measure how much water is available to plants. The HOBOnet TEROS 21 Sensor is designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, and it doesn’t require calibration for different soil types or salinity.
The HOBOnet system is a cost-effective and scalable option for web-enabled monitoring of field conditions for applications such as crop management, research, and greenhouse operations. And because it’s wireless, you can deploy a network of sensors to easily monitor multiple points with a single system, while avoiding the risk of long cables that can interfere with field operations and are potentially vulnerable to nearby lightning strikes.
Sensors are easily linked to the network, and data can be accessed through HOBOlink®, Onset's innovative cloud-based software platform.
• Highlighted Features
• Soil water potential and soil temperature measurements with one device
• A more accurate picture of the amount of water available to plants than volumetric water content sensors
• No calibration required for soil type or salinity
• Long-lasting and maintenance-free with durable epoxy construction
• Wide measurement range: -9 to -2000 kPa

A cloud is a visible mass of droplets, in other words, little drops of water or frozen crystals suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or another planetary body. A cloud is also a visible mass attracted by gravity, such as masses of material in space called interstellar clouds and nebulae. Clouds are studied in the nephology or cloud physics branch of meteorology.
On Earth the condensing substance is typically water vapor, which forms small droplets or ice crystals, typically 0.01 mm (0.00039 in) in diameter. When surrounded by billions of other droplets or crystals they become visible as clouds. Dense deep clouds exhibit a high reflectance (70% to 95%) throughout the visible range of wavelengths. They thus appear white, at least from the top. Cloud droplets tend to scatter light efficiently, so that the intensity of the solar radiation decreases with depth into the gases, hence the gray or even sometimes dark appearance at the cloud base. Thin clouds may appear to have acquired the color of their environment or background and clouds illuminated by non-white light, such as during sunrise or sunset, may appear colored accordingly. Clouds look darker in the near-infrared because water absorbs solar radiation at those wavelengths.

Great atmospherics caused by a threatening dark cloud base over most of the area, but the sun burst through and lit The Cobb. Used a screw-on Hoya 49mm 10 stop ND filter, plus the built-in 3 stop ND in the X100T, to give a whopping 13 stops, hence the 26 sec exposure.

A summary of Ops 25-34.
Operation 25 to Ludwigshafen was in Lancaster PM-C with airframe PD427. Takeoff was 15:36 and landing was 22:44. Target markers were bombed at 19:18.30 from 16,000ft.
Operation 27 to Elbe Estuary was in Lancaster PM-X with airframe PD236. Takeoff was 17:40 and landing was 22:13. Target was bombed by H2S at 20:10.30 from 15,000ft. The aircraft was hit and damaged by flak on the return trip. None of the crew sustained any injuries and landed safely at Elsham Wolds. The above information was taken from the Squadron ORB's. First hand information from the Flight Engineer differs greatly with this. According to him, they dropped from about 1500ft and the damage was sustained by a hit from a night fighter, taking the top off the rudder and the starboard wing tip.
