St. Helen's Church Welton serving the parish of Melton, Welton and Wauldby in the East Riding Christianity was first established in this area after the conversation of King Edwin of Deira in A.D. 626 by Paulinus, chaplain to his queen Ethelburga, whose parents King Elthelbert and Queen Bertha of Kent are commemorated in the large west window. There has been a church on this site since Saxon times.

It is not just my camera-work that makes this clock-tower lean. It is on an angle because of soft ground caused by the now underground River Feirste, the river that gives Béal Feirste its name.

The clock tower was designed by the Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Père and built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamid II's accession to the throne (reigned 1876–1909). The clock itself was a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II (reigned 1888–1918). It is decorated in an elaborate Ottoman architecture style. The tower, which has an iron and lead skeleton, is 25 m (82 ft) high and features four fountains (şadırvan), which are placed around the base in a circular pattern. The columns are inspired by Moorish themes.

On our way to hike at Big South Fork, I looked up at this pretty clocktower and asked Chuck to back the car up. I thought it would make a neat photo against the sky that day. I like it. :)

This clocktower is behind a place I used to live at. I like the antique effect I got here, along with the sort of moody effect of the clouds.
