I purchased these Field Notes Brand memo books and love them but I didn't like the way the books didn't stay closed and pens clipped onto the books awkwardly. So I quickly designed up this clip that not only keeps the book closed but also lets you attach a pen. I designed the clip to perfectly fit the Field Notes Brand click pens but as you can see it will also fit other brand pens too.

I clipped the recipe for these "Chewy Chocolate Cookies" from the newspaper a while ago and made the cookies, and have been craving them ever since; they were rich and chocolatey and fabulous.
Then I lost the recipe for years. I just found it buried in the kitchen junk drawer, and made them again this weekend. They contain 8 oz. of semi-sweet chocolate, 6 oz. of unsweetened chocolate and 12 oz. of bittersweet chocolate chips (plus butter, flour, brown sugar, eggs, baking powder, and salt.). After nibbling a few right out of the overn, the rest of the batch went directly into the freezer, as I can only have one in the evening with my cup of tea after dinner. Any more chocolate and I will be up all night !

"I read with deep enjoyment Chris Dombrowski's essay "My Anti-Zen Zen" [August 2011], especially the part about dreading the day all three of his kids will be crying at once. I don't have three kids, but I have two very strong-willed twin boys. They had trouble learning to breast-feed, so I would pump my milk and put it in bottles. I remember one night at 2AM, pumping both sides while rocking the babies in their car seats, one with each foot, all three of us crying.
My boys are fourteen now. They are taller than I am, with deep voices and muscular limbs. The other day I was goofing around with them and tried to pick them up and rock them and play some of our toddler games. We were soon helpless with laughter, holding our sides, tears streaming down our faces.
I take that joyous image and try to send it back in time, to my fourteen-year-younger self, sitting in the dark and weeping. Don't you think we can do that, be our own guardian angels and comforters? I like to think so.

Album – Babenhausen, Hesse, Germany – 2018SEP07-08:
Mother went this time last year to Babenhausen to visit the Blachniks, whom our family has known 58 years, and we were planning for her to go over again stand-by on the flight I was working this weekend. It began to fill and I was unable to swap trips: if my scheduled flight had no empty passenger seats, I could not carry my mother over the ocean on that day, so Joe agreed to accompany her the day before and I would work the next day to Frankfurt, then ride the crew bus to Mainz, take the train to Babenhausen, visit Mother and the Blachniks, and pick Joe up. He and I would take the train to Mainz, and he would ride back with me while I worked the flight to Charlotte.
And we did! So Mother is in Babenhausen, Joe & I in Charlotte. Next we need her return trip back to the States.
As my vacation is starting, I plan to fly back stand-by, see the Blachniks, Mother, and maybe her host family in Babenhausen a few days while I stay at a hotel, then take Mother by train to Mainz she wants to see, and fly stand-by again; after landing in Charlotte she will overnight with her sister Marie Robinson in Gastonia, to break up the drive back to her home in Brevard.

"Allez...Vas-y s'te plaît...Prends-moi en train d'faire semblant d'pioncer" ou bien "J'vais m'caler au volant d'ce vieux camtar et tu m'prends en photo...Allez...Vas-y..."
Bref...peut-être qu'après ça il m'foutra la paix...quoique je n'en suis pas si certain.
Après tout, il est beaucoup plus moi-même que je ne le suis vraiment...
As you can see, we visited Liberty Square (arriving late), made our way to Brooklyn Bridge (Church st, Vesey, Park Row) Marchers at Centre & Chambers were then blocked from south by cops who came tearing in from Vesey (4:05-11). We couldn't reach them (and looking at the nervy cops, didn't want to), so we went down Frankfort as march entered the bridge. Cops had by that time (c.4:15) blocked FDR & Pearl Street entrances to bridge on both sides. Cops were telling motorists on Pearl that Protesters were blocking the bridge (c. 4:17). Literally at the moment marchers entered the bridge. Exit/ entrance stairs were blocked by cops (so no exit allowed from ped walkway). From below we could see only cars, no peds, on south roadway (c. 4:15-20).
From that point we moved to South Street Mall (third level) to get view of whole bridge. At that point data service on AT&T -- which had been nothing, not even E while voice had five bars -- returned. Saw arrests, police helio (only: at one point c. 6pm a press helio arrived. Stayed ~ 1 min before police helio returned and press fled or were ordered by traffic control, up the East R out of sight at rapid clip), At that point busses appeared on bridge to take arrestees: we could identify six in all. Also post helio incident, s police patrol boat positioned south of bridge, and tourist boats and other small craft made 180 degree turns both north and south out of area. Assuming there were radio orders at that time to clear river of civilian craft.
Took pictures and monitored updates till 7pm, arrived Liberty Sq 7:20, via Wall Street. On Wall pairs of cops stationed at every building entrance, four plus a whiteshirt at the Trump building, all looking v worried.
On return to Liberty Sq, cordoned by uniforms, as huge crowd sang and fraternized w cops. White shirts then pulled back cops c 8pm, riot squad groups appeared around corner south on Bway. After reportbacks at sq, we returned to Ferry via Greenwich & State. EVERY tiny side street had police vans up them, EVERY corner down to ferry had a uniform stationed at corner. The Police presence in whole of downtown smothering, including cameras mounted on main avenues, "terror" barriers around Wall, french barricades along every street in area, including tourists blocked from approaching Wall Street Bull (well south of Wall) with four cops stationed to "protect" it from when we arrived (3pm) to when we left (8:30pm)
