During my Sunday excursions, I'll often pause extra long to admire an abandoned country house with a memorable veranda, a homey construction detail you seldom see on modern houses. Those family members walked out to a clean, sweeping prairie view, seldom bothered by anything other than natural sounds and big skies. You wouldn't need to contend with admiring the neighbourhood you might not fancy. Traffic and lawnmowers wouldn't wake you early. No door to door salesman, nor garbage trucks. Truth is you didn't even lock the doors. Your mind was less cluttered, hardly shackled to social media with on demand prompts.
These thoughts helped recall a recent Robert Genn paragraph, as I opened a thermos of tea/biscuits and contemplated how to visually represent my discovery. Then my Blackberry beeped, I laughed….as I formatted my memory card. I felt a rich prairie cleansing, my efficiency was full steam ahead, minus the city sludge.
"Recent studies of teenagers' use of cellphones and other electronic devices have revealed some interesting results. Apparently, if you deprive kids of social networking for a week or so, a high percentage become significantly depressed. They also lose efficiency, will, enthusiasm and sleep. Their marks go down and their lassitude goes up.
For many artists, something similar happens when "the work quotient" is taken from their lives. A couple of unproductive days can send some creative folks into the dumps. They may not even be aware of what's happening to them. "Fear of restart" and permanent creative catatonia can set in after long-term abstinence."

Melandra is deserted now as a result of the war and Turkish invasion of 1974. The Turks went north and the Creeks came south, swapping houses in some cases. No reconciliation yet and unlikely with the current regime in Turkey. A great shame all round.
Although he is known by many other attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him particularly easy to identify. In Hinduism, Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles. and more generally as the Lord of Beginnings and the Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He is honoured at the beginning of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as the Patron of Letters during writing sessions.Several texts relate mythological anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and explain his distinct iconography.
The most well-known story is probably the one taken from the Shiva Purana. Once, while his mother Parvati wanted to take a bath, there were no attendants around to guard her and stop anyone from accidentally entering the house. Hence she created an image of a boy out of turmeric paste which she prepared to cleanse her body (turmeric was used for its antiseptic and cooling properties), and infused life into it, and thus Ganesha was born. Parvati ordered Ganesha not to allow anyone to enter the house, and Ganesha obediently followed his mother's orders. After a while Shiva returned from outside, and as he tried to enter the house, Ganesha stopped him. Shiva was infuriated at this strange little boy who dared to challenge him. He told Ganesha that he was Parvati's husband, and demanded that Ganesha let him go in. But Ganesha would not hear any person's word other than his dear mother's. Shiva lost his patience and had a fierce battle with Ganesha. At last he severed Ganesha's head with his trishula. When Parvati came out and saw her son's lifeless body, she was very angry and sad. She demanded that Shiva restore Ganesha's life at once.
Unfortunately, Shiva's trishula was so powerful that it had hurled Ganesha's head very far off. All attempts to find the head were in vain. Parvati was so enraged and insulted that she decided to destroy the entire Creation! Lord Brahma, being the Creator, naturally had his issues with this, and pleaded that she reconsider her drastic plan. She said she would, but only if two conditions were met: one, that Ganesha be brought back to life, and two, that he be forever worshipped before all the other gods. Sent Brahma out with orders to bring back the head of the first creature he crosses that is laying with its head facing North. Shiva then sent his celestial armies (Gana) to find and take the head of whatever creature they happened to find asleep with its head facing north. They found a dying elephant which slept in this manner, and after its death took its head, attaching the elephant's head to Ganesha's body and bringing him back to life. From then on, he was called Ganapathi, head of the celestial armies, and was to be worshipped by everyone before beginning any activity.

Kurds and friends are protesting Turkish State illegal invasion of Rojava
From London to Tokyo, Paris to Washington DC, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets against Turkey's military invasion of Rojava.
Is there anything quite as blissful as an amble by the seashore at sunrise?
When I cast my eyes out to sea, I notice that the horizon is hemmed in a marmalade orange with rivers of pulsing light saturating the water with gold, a watery wonderland.
The witchcraft spell of the morning light and the siren call of the sea is soothing to my soul.
ODC - FEBRUARY "TO CLEANSE"...
February comes from the Latin word februs, which means "to cleanse." The month was named after the Roman Februalia, which was a month long festival of purification and atonement.
By spending my time by the sea is a cleansing for me.
Light breaks through Father Winter's cruel gray cape and brings the fresh air we all long for.

Fire by its nature is destructive. It consumes and alters the state of matter. When fire burns through the forest, it leaves in its wake a sea of soot and ash. It's easy to see how observing the woods in this condition could be alarming to some. But for those who understand the role of fire in certain forested communities, it is a most welcome site. We know that it won't be long until life returns, with forms and grasses resprouting from intact roots, nourished by the minerals left in the fires wake, and benefitting from increased sunlight and reduced competition from the removal of woody plants in the understory.
Periodic low intensity fires are crucial for the maintenance of certain communities. These types of fires would have historically been started by lightning strikes in the hotter, drier months. Today, however, naturally occurring fires in the eastern U.S. are relatively rare. As a result, land stewards employ prescribed fire as a management tool. Unfortunately, these are often performed in the cooler, wetter months, which results in issues such as less efficient control of encroachment by woody species, and favoring a different herbaceous community.
Frequent low intensity fires also helps to reduce woody fuel load. Many of the mega fires observed in the western U.S. have resulted from unnaturally high fuel load brought on by fire suppression.
Fire ecology is a fascinating, important subject. Pictured here is a controlled burn in a longleaf pine savanna in the Angelina National Forest. Fire and longleaf are inextricably linked, and I have discussed this relationship in previous posts for anyone interested.
I got a Warhammer 40K Space Marine vibe from the Series 7 "Galaxy Patrol" collectable minifig, so naturally I had to make a small vignette of him slaughtering some xenos.
Mike Ryan and I went out for a shoot near Goat Rock Beach, Sonoma Coast State Park last Friday. Some cliff climbing is required to get to this spot. While Mike and I were climbing out in the dark I realized that I had lost my wedding ring. We scoured the vicinity with flash lights well into the dark with no luck. The following Saturday morning my daughters boyfriend Kyle and I went back to see if we could find it. We went up and down the cliffs maybe 5 times and decided it just wasn't going to be found. As we were climbing out I stopped at a spot and panned around without moving for about 5 minutes. As I was getting ready to pull myself up, I looked down to where I was going to place my foot and BAMMMM! There it was, sticking half way out of the dirt. Needless to say I was extremely lucky and happy to have found it!

Going with curls. Tough decision between ponytail and curls. Shoot at 3. Brought 6 outfits with me, probably need to narrow it down to 3 outfits. So thrilled to be on this side of the cleanse!

christian short film | Christian Testimony "Awakening Amid Judgment" | Have You Found the Path to Have Your Sins Cleansed?
www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/awakening-amid-judgment/
Introduction
After Li Jie accepts the work of Almighty God in the last days, she thirsts for God's word and forsakes everything to expend for God. Two years later, she is chosen as a church leader. As she performs her duties, the arrogance, conceit, and desire for fame and benefits of her satanic nature are exposed time and again: When she sees the sister she is partnered with promoted, she becomes jealous, and finds herself living in a negative state; at meetings, she deliberately exalts and testifies herself while belittling her coworkers, and tries to make her brothers and sisters look up to and admire her. Because she doesn't pursue truth, and instead walks the path of an antichrist and pursues fame and status, she loses the work of the Holy Spirit, cannot do practical work, and is dismissed from her leadership duties. After losing her position, she finds herself trapped in refinement, and through readingGod's words and reflecting on herself, she comes to realize she was compelled to pursue fame and status, resist God, and rebel against God against her will by the arrogance and conceit of her satanic nature. In the judgment and chastisement of God's word, she finally awakens, and sees clearly that the essence of her pursuit of fame and status is to walk the path of an antichrist. She begins to hate her satanic nature, and comes to understand that only by pursing the truth, fulfilling the duties of a creature of God, and obeying, loving, and satisfying God can she succeed in her belief in God and be approved by God. Later on, she focuses on pursuing the truth and soundly fulfilling her duties, and no longer relies on Satan's toxins to live, but rather lives by practicing the truth and relying on God's word. Gradually, she escapes the bondage of fame and status, and her soul finally gains freedom and release.

I realized this last night, and confirmed it this morning. I am in a funk, paralyzed by my indecisiveness and lack of ability to commit to a project, start it and finish it. I am overwhelmed and buried by my piles of good ideas and good intentions. Basically, came to that conclusion last night when Susan and I went out to shoot in that old house and once I got through the doorway, and into the house, my brain said, “mission accomplished” and turned off. Camera settings were all off and I wasn’t seeing things the way I usually do...and as Susan was snapping away in every room, my mind basically took a nap. Confirmation came today, when I went with Katie to the fabric store, another one of my “happy places” and I walked from aisle to aisle thinking about this project and that project, once again, unable to commit to starting any of them and I left without buying a thing. When does that happen....? Like...NEVER!!! (of course, the mail came today, and that little issue is now remedied by an envelope full of fabric that is earmarked for yet another project that seemed like a great idea when I hit the BUY button) .
So, maybe this is the problem.... for many of you that have never met me, but visit me frequently here at my Flickr “home away from home”, and may or may not have me somewhat figured out (and if you do...please, oh God, please!! Fill me in!!), I am a bit late to the party and I think that this may be my problem... I did not follow Friday’s horoscope ( June 13, 2014). If you really do think you have me figured out.... this may amuse you:
LIBRA: You’ll be cleaning and clearing an environment, a method of working, or both. You are in a minimalistic mood, but be careful not to get rid of too much or scrub too hard.
WHAT?!!! Seriously...who are they talking to?!!! MINIMALISTIC?!! Someone please define that for me.... it can’t possibly mean what I think it means. And cleaning and scrubbing.... let’s just not go there... I don’t !!
hahahha.... I’m still laughing and this was from last friday!! Ok.... maybe, I should take a hint. So back to the ocean, back to the Oregon coast, deep cleansing breaths. (there, see, I’m cleaning..)

there's a water war going on about leaving enough water for wildlife and salmon in the lower klamath river. up in the klamath basin, conserving water means limiting irrigation and development.
since i was helping the economy by my tourism specifically to see wildlife, i was doubtful that killing all the critters is the way to make the town thrive. in fact, i found the very idea of comparing water sharing and conservation with genocide insulting. this was on the county fairgrounds and convention center in the town of klamath falls.

“Sometimes we’re taken into troubled waters not to drown but to be cleansed” 💧
Can’t believe we’re already up to the seventh photo in #StillFlickring. Time is just absolutely flying. Every 2 weeks, each of us in the group (Liisa, Havard, Savannah, Laura, Jana, Brittany, Christian, Sophie and Ethan) will challenge another to re-create an older self portrait dated back 2013 or earlier. It’s a way for us to see how far we’ve come as artists and how we’d interpret the concept today 💙💗
This week Liisa challenged me! When I took the original photo, I wasn’t really in the right headspace to create and whilst I did experiment with layering and editing, I wasn’t thrilled with the final result. It really reflected where my mind was at, which was from what I read last night in the Flickr description, was all over the place due to being faced with things in life that I had no little to no control over. Fast forward to now and I’m in a very similar headspace. It’s been a full on week, my mind is once again a little all over the place and some things are once again out of my control...which is scary and unsettling. So, here’s to hoping the dust settles soon... ☔️
I’m not thrilled with this recreation, but it marks a time in my life and as with any project, there’s ups and downs. It’s all part of the challenge. As always, thanks for always following along, liking + leaving comments/messages. I read every single one and appreciate you all xx
