It is a custom to cleanse your hands and mouth prior to praying at Japanese temples.
At the purification fountain near the shrine's entrance, take one of the ladles provided, fill it with fresh water and rinse both hands. Then transfer some water into your cupped hand, rinse your mouth and spit the water beside the fountain.
You are not supposed to transfer the water directly from the ladle into your mouth or swallow the water. You will notice that quite a few visitors skip the mouth rinsing part or the purification ritual altogether.

"Keep close to Nature’s heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean" ~ John Muir.
The reason I take these trips has always been to cleanse my soul. Standing in awe in front of this scene I thought of the books I have read on John Muir and his first visit to Yosemite - "Finally settling in San Francisco Muir immediately left for a week-long visit to Yosemite, a place he had only read about. Seeing it for the first time, Muir notes that "He was overwhelmed by the landscape, scrambling down steep cliff faces to get a closer look at the waterfalls, whooping and howling at the vistas, jumping tirelessly from flower to flower." He then set out to make sure Yosemite would become a National Park. I am forever grateful to those that recognized that so many places in this country needed to be permanently preserved for generations to come. I think it is our duty as Americans to do everything in our power to continue this legacy. ~ Yosemite National Park, California.s

Every ending holds its own kind of beauty. The gentle curve of the stem, the faded, painterly colours of the petals, and the stark, cleansing ground of winter's first arrival. This isn't decay; it's a profound, natural transition captured in a moment of quiet solitude.

Pine boughs compete for a bit of solar energy along the eastward facing side. This tree was damaged several years ago with some wind but has recovered nicely. The image seemed to work better in monochrome.

What an incredible, warm evening followed by this delicious sunset. I certainly had my fill of sunshine and ice cream tonight. :)

Here's my first non-meetup upload. I still have more that I might edit later but the majority of the uploads are out of the way. Like I said before, the meetup has inspired me so much, I want to shoot now more than ever and I'm starting to think up new concepts everyday.
I guess the title kind of says enough about the concept. Thanks mom for throwing milky water all over me.
Hope you all are having a great summer and I hope that I will be uploading a lot more often!

This is the best version of 6 attempts at this shot. Unfortunately it was left with about a trillion bits of crap on the filter and lens from the sea spray and other detritus. I spent about an hour cleaning this up. Apart from cloning the crap off this is SOOC.
