New boiler being delivered to the East River Housing Corporation's boiler plant (Co-op Village), which provides heat and hot water for approximately 2,700 apartments in the Amalgamated Dwellings, East River and Hillman cooperatives. The new boiler is part of an overall upgrade which includes switching from burning dirtier Number 6 fuel oil to cleaner options of gas or number 2 fuel oil as backup (switchable on demand) as well as a conversion from the present high pressure system to low pressure.
