From the left hand side to the back then front right, these are the Thai classical instruments these children use:

Saw Sam Sai (Three Stringed fiddle) ( ซอสามสาย ) – it is a traditional bowed string instrument made from a special type of coconut covered on one end with animal skin. Musician playing Saw Sam Sai’ mostly sits at the front row of the ensemble.

Thai Ramwong Drum ( รำวง )– It is super heavty solid carved shell with beautiful wood grain and nice lacquer finish. It is easily tunable without tools by adjusting the ropes.

Ching ( ฉิ่ง ) and Chap ( ฉาบ ) – this is the tupe of metal percussion looks like mini cymbals made of an alloy. Ching comes in pair of bowl shape cymbals. Chap is more flat and thinner.

Ja Khe ( จะเข้ ) – is made of wood in a stylised alligator shape with three strings laying along the instruments. Two strings are made of silk yarn or nylon and the other strings is made of brass, It has raised frets made of bamboo, which are affixed to the fretboard. The body is made of soft wood trees such as jackfruit.

Traditional music can help people understand a country better. It represents the history, traditions and thoughts of a community you are in.

As for yourself, of course, either you are playing or learning to play any instruments can be seen as very therapeutic. It can raise your mood and make you calm or relaxed.

Have a wonderful day ahead!

I have always had a fascination with boats that have surpassed their ‘use by’ date. Just imagine the sights they have witnessed, the tales they could tell of riding the waves, assuming they don’t succumb to them, before reaching their final resting place. Then it’s a twice daily salt bath to soothe their aching joints before eventually perishing completely……

So, to the music. I’ve never linked this piece before and if you’re really not a fan of modern classical then look away now.

However, if you have 26 minutes and 46 seconds to spare, go find a quiet place, put some headphones on and immerse yourself.....

It’s a slow burner but builds and builds, gaining momentum and power. I see this boat battling against a progressively angry sea…..

It’s mournful and melancholic but truly beautiful, one of my favourite pieces and the voice of Dawn Upshaw is simply sublime.

Alternatively, on a lighter note, if your weekend would not be complete without a Pelican trying to eat a Capybara, then here you go...

The 1983 edition of the Carnival of Venice, one of the very first of modern times as it was reintroduced only in 1979.

I wasn't happy with my previous website and kept looking for a new theme for quite some time. Now, the new version is up and running - hope you enjoy it!

Classical architecture survived better when actually made of whole stone, not steel and concrete. Hilgard Hall, 1917, on the UC Berkeley campus.

Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire, is a late 18th century (neo-classical) mansion of historical importance (now a hotel). Designed by Robert Adams with an extensive park established by Capability Brown, it is overlooking now - Luton Airport. Times are changing. Here a detail of the veranda (patio) to the east of the building. Shot wide-open, Classic Negative film simulation.

No, this is not a scene from a sci-fi movie. Such fantastic places actually exist on planet Earth and those of you have visited this city-state in Southeast Asia, can recognize the remarkable Singapore Gardens.

While visiting Singapore we were impressed by many things, but the Gardens by the Bay were the culmination of our tour.

The trees you see in the picture are illuminated when the sun goes down. Then the light-music show begins, with bright colors that change according to classical music pieces.

The Fitzwilliam Museum on Trumpington Street, Cambridge, opened its doors to the public in 1848. The architecture of this building itself is a kind of appropriation of Greek and Roman antiquity - almost as if the British Empire was its legitimate successor civilisation. The museum is holding collections of exquisite quality, and the exhibits from Ancient Greece and Cyprus, Rome and Egypt are indeed superb. I must admit that classical antiquity, in the midst of which Christianity originated, is still the yardstick against which I measure our own attempts at being civilised. Fuji X-E2.
