This neo-classical building in downtown Johannesburg dates from 1907, according the decorative wrought iron work on the front entrance. Apart from the Atlantes flanking the entrance, there are various other pieces of statuary adorning the building. It is currently occupied by a school, but I'm sure in times past it was probably home to some or other government department.
The classical view of Hallstatt. Uploaded to the internet a million times (at least). So I asked myself, how can I possibly add something new? For starters, I came in winter, and (of course) I waited for my favorite light which is at blue hour, just when the city lights turn on. And then there was the ferry. I noticed the little ferry boat already during the day and thought its lights might provide nice trails during blue hour. So I studied the schedule and came back to the right place at the right time ...

A shrine to wabi-sabi, transience & imperfection… former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist, Johnnie Meier has been collecting road culture artifacts since 1987; in 2002 he retired & created the Museum. There is wabi-sabi beauty in the thoughtful organic arrangement of the road culture artifacts and in the fond remembrance of things that once populated our early memories.
On Highway 68, between Santa Fe & Taos, along a beautiful stretch of the Rio Grande River, the Classical Gas Museum is wonderful. Johnnie is an artistic, kind, & friendly soul. There is no admission fee instead donations for the Dixon Animal Protection Society are encouraged.

I never tire of the great art deco mascots of the 20s and 30s. This design evolved over the years, changing details and design elements, but it appears it was originally designed first by designer Joseph E. Corker patent granted to Packard Motor Car Co. 7/12/1927, patent #73,026, exhibited on a Rollston cabriolet at the New York City Automobile show January 1926, Packard deluxe emblem known as the Packard "Goddess of Speed.
Based on Nike, the divine charioteer of Greek mythology.
In Greek mythology, Nike was a goddess who personified victory, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory. The Roman equivalent was Victoria. Depending upon the time of various myths, she was described as the daughter of Pallas (Titan) and Styx (Water) and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and Zelus (Zeal). Nike and her siblings were close companions of Zeus, the dominant deity of the Greek pantheon. According to classical (later) myth, Styx brought them to Zeus when the god was assembling allies for the Titan War against the older deities. Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Greek art. Nike flew around battlefields rewarding the victors with glory and fame. Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings. Most other winged deities in the Greek pantheon had shed their wings by Classical times. Nike is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory. Nike was a very close acquaintance of Athena, and is thought to have stood in Athena's outstretched hand in the statue of Athena located in the Parthenon. Nike is one of the most commonly portrayed figures on Greek coins. The shoe and sports equipment company Nike, Inc. is named after the Greek goddess Nike.

Centre: Queen's house, 1616-1635, architect Inigo Jones, the first deliberately classical building in Britain. Built for Anne of Denmark, Queen of James I. Either side are the wings of the Royal Hospital for Seamen, now the Old Royal Naval College, laid out so as to protect the view to the Thames from the Queen's house, by order of Queen Mary II. Built 1696-1751, architect Sir Christopher Wren.

A view of the archway entrance to La Rochelle's magnificent town hall (L'Hôtel de la Ville), which has been in continuous operation since 1298. However, it was reconstructed in 1490 and again in 2013 after a fire caused major damage that took six years to repair.

27/31 October Photo Challenge - this old guitar has not been played for a while so tonight it got dusted off, tuned up and given the opportunity to play a few tunes. Romanza, Classical Gas and the first verse of Every Breath You Take. Decided the old girl needed immortalising on Flickr.
I'm off for some exciting travelling. Hopefully will bring back some photos worth looking at...
Should be seen large.
Description: Towards the end of the 14th century Vannes became one of the favourite residences of the Dukes of Brittany. The battlements were extended towards the port, doubling the area within the town walls.
Within the town walls many timber-frame houses can be found in the narrow streets surrounding the Cathedral, which was rebuilt from the 15th century onwards. This “wooden town” is complemented by a “stone town” dating from the classical period.
