Photograph taken at 05:47am at an altitude of Three metres on April 7th 2011 off Hastings Avenue and Selsey Avenue, between Jaywick and Clacton on sea in Essex, England. Here we are looking towards the old pier which opened in 1871 with a length of 160 yards.
I had to get up around 3am to prepare and make the hour and a bit journey through the Dartford crossing tunnel to Essex. These were the days of toll booths and automated systems where you could lob coins through your car window and race the guys in the next lane who've been tailgating you on the run up! Once there, I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise and the beauty of old Clacton which has hardly changed since my childhood.

Jaywick Beach near Clacton-on-Sea a popular seaside resort for day trippers and holidaymakers The Essex Coast eBook amzn.to/1Bi2y0h By Doug Carpenter
The County of Essex
These latest collection of images have been photographed over a long period of time. The greater part has been taken when I have visited a church in that town or village. Some of the villages are so small that apart from a few houses which I won’t post, have no significant features to them that I could find, apart from the village signs. Some of the larger towns have had the greater share of visits, because of their churches and to my book buying travels.
As usual with my stuff, please enjoy.
After two failed attempts on Mon & Tue for 3S60 it finally arrived at the seaside working 3S60 0900 Stowmarket D.G.L to Stowmarket D.G.L via Southend rhtt service. Not best placed in platform one but my first Class 68 at Clacton-on-Sea. No 68033 The Poppy is on the front.

I do enjoy a trip to Clacton, regrettably I haven't managed it for a few years and obviously I can't go at present so this little batch of cards will have to do for now.
Mildly disappointing that we don't have an HB Viva to complete the set, although at least we have HA, HC and Bedford van. Interesting to see the latter as an AA van, along with an Escort Mk1 equivalent. Were their drivers enjoying a spot of seaside sunshine whilst waiting for the next snapped fanbelt or flat battery?
Difficult to make out any full registrations, but the Viva HA looks to be on a Norfolk 'VF' plate and the Fiat 850 was a local Essex 'EV' car.
The tank-topped lad looks like he's on a collision course with the crossing post.....

In this colourful shot we see former Eastern National ECW bodied Bristol RELL6G type number 1516 - FWC 439H pausing for the cameras at The Black Boy bus stop situated on The Street at Weeley. The Black Boy PH, which sits on the B1033 can just be seen in the background through the gap between 1516 and the Bus Shelter.
Along with vehicle 1546 - SVW 274K, 1516 was taking part in an Omnibus Society organised running day covering parts of former ENOC 19 & 53 service routes between Chelmsford and Clacton-on-Sea.
A thoroughly enjoyable day rediscovering some old haunts and realising how much has changed. With thanks to the organisers and especially vehicle owners Luke Deal (1546) and David Edwards (1516).
An 86ft, medium sized coasting barge, she is spritsail rigged and constructed of Pitch Pine on Oak. Originally built in 1906 for coastal trade carrying wheat and grain products, she also had a successful racing career before falling into sad disrepair during the 1990s.
Purchased by her current owner in 1999, an extensive programme of restoration has been undertaken and completed. Now sailing once again, the Edith May Trading Company has been formed and invites you to join them on this most beautiful of sailing vessels.

Clacton has a great number of seafront shelters, all of which are of different designs.
This is described as a 1921 circular pavilion divided into four sections containing seats. The recently restored shelter is white rendered and has Doric columns and latticework windows under a green tile roof.
