The station has history going back to 1882,. The building with the impressive frontage now also houses some catering and retail outlets. Clacton-On-Sea Station is the terminus station at the end of what is sometimes called The Sunshine Coast Line.
There is also a maintenance depot alongside the station.

Whilst waiting for 37610 & 37604 to arrive Clacton on Sea with 1Q18, 57008 & 57004 arrived at lunchtime with 3S61, the 1126 RHTT from Shenfield, which would then form 3S62 to Colchester.
An aerial view of the Clacton sea front. This postcard isn’t dated, but the photograph must have been taken between 1914 when the new band pavilion was built, and 1936 when the bandstand in its centre was replaced by a stage.
My friends Ingrid and Dirk Zeibig were guests of my Ipswich friends, Ray and Diana Watts, at the beginning of June 2008. On Sunday 8th June Ray drove them over to Clacton to take me back to Ipswich for the lunch that Diana was preparing.
I was able to guide them through the town to the sea front before we drove to Ipswich. They saw Clacton at its very best - with warm, summer sunshine, hardly any breeze and a calm sea. The tide was out and they were able to stroll on a large expanse of sandy beach. They were deeply impressed with Clacton as a holiday resort and compared it very favourably with Aldeburgh and its stony beaches thet they had visited briefly in (it must be said) a high wind and driving rain the day before.
Ingrid and Dirk currently live in Bayreuth but they originated in eastern Saxony. Both areas are 700 miles or more from the nearest sea coast!
