Another picture taken on New Year's Day 1979 in front of the bungalow (on the left) in Dudley Road, Clacton-on-Sea into which Heather and I, with our two young sons, moved in the autumn of 1956 and where I still live today.
Parked outside is our Toyota Hiace motor-caravan. Later in 1979 Heather and I used it for a touring holiday in Europe that took in the Italian Lakes and the German Black Forest. The following year we visited what was then a peaceful Jugoslavia, driving down the beautiful Dalmation coast to beyond Dubrovnik and inland to Mostar and Sarajevo.
It is salutary to remind ourselves of the winters that we used to experience before global warming!

Clacton on Sea Essex was the venue for the Hindu festival Ganesh Chathurthi where Lord Ganesh is immersed into the sea so (as Hindu followers believe) he will be able to return to his parents at Mount Kailash.
It was a lovely summer's day with sunshine and lots of people on the beach, but underneath the pier it was really eerie - almost silent except for the echoes, and cold. The piers were quite rusty and covered in barnacles. There was no-one else there. The smell was indescribable, pleasant yet not! A mixture of rotting seaweed and damp sand. I recomment a trip "under the pier" to anyone.
Ei-ENL (Ryanair Boeing 737-8AS) - Flight FR7384 from London Stansted to Copenhagen, which after a 69 minutes late departure returned to London Stansted, after reaching the Essex coastline at Clacton-on-Sea (reason un-known) - Hertford Heath - c1417 - 09/05/25.
I should have checked Real Time Trains before going out for morning bike ride (I wanted to go early before it got too warm), as I could have photographed 1M16 without having to get up early for the first time in almost 2 years & 92023 for the first time in almost 7 years, but that is nothing compared with my last visit to Old Warden, which must be over 50 years ago, but That's Life and there no point crying over spilt milk (an idiom meaning to worry about something that has already happened and can't be changed)!

Clacton-On-Sea railway station on rail replacement. New to Tellings-Golden Miller for the 726 Green Line coach service. Volvo B10BLE Alexander ALX300 B44F.
Here we see a view of Clacton station with the signal box and the searchlight signals with the 1305 departure to London Liverpool Street almost ready to go and C44 showing green. There are a number of searchlights left at Clacton station and on the approaches all of which should have gone with the rest of the ones in the area a few years back but they still remain in operation today being the last in the area. The only others on Network Rail I am aware of are at Nottingham.
