Under Clacton on sea Pier in Essex, it's extremely dark under there but the sunshine beaming through creates torch light effects as it shines underneath.
Built in 1871 so it has plenty of evidence of older supports that have been eroded away by the sea and replaced over the years by newer ones.
Nikon fisheye 10.5mm lens I love the effects and view from these lenses, I bought it as a novelty lens thinking I may use it now and again, but every time I put it on the camera I love it.

The London look in Clacton.
Go Ahead Group has replaced Hedingham's cream and red livery with a plain red livery (on the majority of double deckers seen in Clacton), as seen on Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TL 527 in Clacton-on-Sea in May 2022. Despite my initial thoughts that this would make it easier to transfer buses straight out of London without the need for a repaint, it would appear that the former Go Ahead London WVL247 did carry a black skirt right until the end of its time in the capital, so at the very least has had a lower half repaint if nothing else.

GBRf have been carrying out driver route learning on the Clacton branch this past week with the loco coming from Peterborough each day. A light class 66 on the branch is definitely a novel sight. This was recorded from the Aldi car park during my weekly shop!
Three more photos of Eastern National vehicles all caught by my camera in the High Street at Kelvedon during the mid to late 1970’s.
For those visiting sick relatives or friends, ENOC service 124 from Clacton-on-Sea to Black Notley Hospital was something of a marathon. From 7th November 1976 the route was revised to run via Kelvedon and Witham south of Colchester and it was also extended beyond Black Notley Hospital through to Braintree. In this view we see Clacton based Bristol FLF6B BVX 677B passing through Kelvedon whilst working the very first journey to run over the newly revised routing.

Clacton-on-Sea is the largest town in the Tendring peninsula and district in Essex, eastern England, and was founded as an urban district in 1871. It is a seaside resort that saw a peak of tourists in the summer months between the 1950s and 1970s.
The town's economy continues to rely significantly on entertainment and day-trip facilities and it is strong in the service sector, with a large retired population. The north-west part of the town has two business/industrial parks. In the wider district, agriculture and occupations connected to the Port of Harwich provide further employment.

A faded sign on the frontage of Clacton-on-Sea station. It dates from the former First Great Eastern franchise and reflects the fact that prior to 2007 the station was simply named "Clacton".
These snaps are from a photo album belonging once to Gwendoline Dean and John Allen who married in 1945 and had a daughter Margaret in 1947. I bought the album at a car boot sale otherwise things that don't sell there are usually destined for the tip.
Pencilled in like secret writing is the location of Clacton on Sea. You could only see this when holding the album at an angle against the light !

The Pier was officially opened on 27th July 1871 when the SS 'Albert Edward' called, bringing with it a party of directors from Woolwich Steam Packet Company and around 200 guests. When it opened it was just 160 yards in length and 4 yards wide.
The first major alterations to the Pier took place In1893, it was lengthened to 1,180 feet and a theatre and the Pier Pavilion (later called the Jolly Roger), was built by architects Kinipple & Jaffrey at the sea end.
During the First World War, Ernest Kingsman purchased the Pier after it had gone into administration and set about turning the Pier into a leisure and entertainment centre.
By the outbreak of the Second World War he had invested around a quarter of a million pounds into The Pier's redevelopment. Building the Ocean Theatre, the Children's Theatre, the Blue Lagoon Dance Hall. the Crystal Casino an open air swimming pool, open air stage for the Ramblas Concert Party and the Steel Stella roller coaster which was later destroyed by a fire in 1973. During the war the pier was damaged by enemy action and was also breached to prevent Its use by an Invasion force.
The Pier helped to establish Clacton as one of the leading seaside resorts in the country. However 1978 saw the closure of the Ocean Theatre and the Pier went into a steady decline. Towards the end of 1994 a local business family.
The Harrisons, bought the Pier, and like Ernest Kingsman before them, embarked on a refurbishment programme.
Still retaining some of its old world charm with a modern twist, the huge amusement halls, assortment of fairground rides, food and game concessions, a bar and restaurant ensure that there is a little something for everyone who visits.
