Historic Alaska Governor’s House in Juneau, Alaska. The house was constructed in 1912 as the Executive Mansion - the same year that Alaska became a United States Territory. Governor Walter E. Clark moved into the house in January 1913 and called it the Governor’s House (instead of the Executive Mansion or Governor’s Mansion). Clark served as the last governor of the District of Alaska (May 18, 1909 - August 24, 1912) and the first governor of the Alaska Territory (August 24, 1912 – May 21, 1913). The Governor’s House has been modified over the years.

In 1989, the Alaska Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) designated the Governor’s House as an Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

The Alaska Governor’s House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1976 (NRIS No. 76000359 as the Alaska Governor’s Mansion).

Second ASCE plaque for the Galveston Seawall and Grade Raising project in Galveston, Texas.

Following the 1900 hurricane which killed over 6,000 residents, a new 3.3 mile curved-faced concrete seawall was constructed between 1902 and 1904. The seawall is 17 feet tall and 16 feet wide at the bottom. Over the years, the seawall has been extended to 10 miles. The city of Galveston also undertook an extensive grade raising project between 1903 and 1911. The project pumped sand fill dredged from the entrance to Galveston Harbor to raise the grade of the city up to 12 feet in places.

The Galveston Seawall and Grade Raising Project was recognized as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2001 by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

We are hoping you can help us fill in the blanks. We think this happened in August of 2007. Where exactly? What was going on? Thanks and we will update these as information comes in.
