Construction of the new Hwy 44 Bridge looking toward the west from the Volusia County side of the St. Johns River. Shot in the morning fog.

A couple sits by a lake in central park. Two architectural icons can be seen - to the left partially cropped out the Dakota building (built in 1882), and to the right the San Remo Building.

The architectural style easily outdates the 1930's art deco styles seen in Midtown. These buildings are constructed in a style called German Renaissance.

This set celebrates the many postcards in our collections. The people, places and events they show can give us an insight into the past, documenting the landscape, the fashions, the way we lived. Some postcards are unused but others tell us something about the people who bought them, through the messages they wrote. They can give us a fascinating glimpse into people’s lives.

After so many years, the Sears Tower in Chicago, will finally meet its match -- and quite close to it literally. The building under construction to the left is the Trump Tower, soon to be one of the tallest in Chicago and the rest of the American continent. Upon completion, the The Trump Tower will also surpass the 400 meter mark, but slightly shorter than that of the Sears Tower. The Chicago Spire, which has also started construction, will soon top out these two towers, and will be the tallest in North America.

The Pont du Gard was built by the Romans around AD50. It is an aqueduct and part of a system to supply water from the source of the Eure to the city of Nimes, over a distance of 50Km with a vertical drop of only 17 metres...an astonishing civil engineering feat. The Pont du Gard is 48 metres high and has a span of 275 metres. Built in 3 tiers, it crosses the river Gardon at its narrowest point. An incredible and awe-inspiring structure.

This picture has some personal history for me. I first saw this room when I was a kid traveling with my parents. Dad took a slide but there wasn't a lot of light, he had a SEARS 35mm camera and there's a lot of vibration in the room. So his shot was, well let's just say it was kind of shaky.

So when I was there some 50 years later, I made sure I got a sharp picture. In fact, I took the tour specifically to get this shot.

There are millions upon millions of versions of this picture out there. It's a stop on the tour. Some of you know I dislike taking the same shot as everyone else. But this is an exception. It has some history for me, I solved a technical problem that my Dad had, AND it checks a LOT of boxes as far as photo composition goes. It's now one of my all time favorites.

The Down line at Bloxwich has been lifted in preparation for relaying to increase line speed. It's hard to imagine that just over a week ago there was a level crossing at this location

The picturesque Navajo Bridge crosses the Colorado River’s Marble Canyon near Lee’s Ferry carrying northbound travelers to southern Utah. The original span on the right built in 1929, has been designated an Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and is used for pedestrian traffic only. When completed, at 470 feet above the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park, it was the highest steel arch bridge in the world. The span on the left was completed in 1995. Aside from Glen Canyon Bridge, a few miles upstream at Page, Arizona, this is the only roadway crossing of the Colorado River for nearly 600 miles!

Took this shot straight at the midsection of the tower. There's symmetry all over it. Gustave Eiffel was a visionary. It was supposed to be just a 20 year contract putting this tower up -- and when it is turned over to the city, it was supposed to be demolished after the 20 years has lapsed. but its more than a hundred years now since 1889, the tower is still here, and has become a world icon.

The Forth Rail Bridge captured from beach next to North Queensferry town pier. This magnificent structure was opened in 1890 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Snow Filled Sky Ice Filled River Hudson - IMRAN™

Flying in to Manhattan last week I captured thus view of the mighty Hudson River as the early morning light shone on the ice floating in the river waters near the George Washington Bridge. The horizon was a reminder of a fast and cold winter storm that was approaching the area. I was supposed to head to Orlando for a weekend getaway I had bought a year ago but had to keep paying change fees to postpone several times. Alas, the five days four nights @Sheraton vacation was totally wasted when I had to cancel my plans due to being knocked out by a flu going around.
