No fisheye lens, and no 360 degrees either, it only looks that way.

These last days it is extremely hot in the Netherlands. At work someone was using a small electronic windmill with little coloured lights.

A bookseller in Santa Cruz had this leaning against his office wall. Once I started drooling on it he sold it to me. I have great respect for Porter Garnett as a printer, designer and teacher. Unfortunately he died before I was born, but he left a lot of his teaching in his writings on handpress printing technology and the craft of printing.

Ever since I moved to the Middle East almost 11(!!!) years ago I found the traditional Arabic patterns really interesting. There’s always really nice shapes and they make great photo subjects. A few months ago during the Faces and Places workshop with David Nightingale and Bobbi Lane we spent the first morning photographing the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Muscat, Oman. It’s a beautiful place, but at the time we were there it was very busy so it was difficult to come up with interesting shots that could give you a feel for the place without the hordes of tourists.

As a result I spent most of the morning trying to focus on small details, like the door handle below or these patterns from a previous post. I struggled for a while to get a shot of this handle that I was happy with , but in the end very shallow depth of field worked for me.

The view of Circular Quay from the ferry to Toranga Zoo is quite nice, to say the least.

If you use Pocketwizard Flextt5 ttl solution www.flickr.com/photos/esari/4411954334/in/set-72157617915... , this add on is a no-brainer and a must for those who do manual flash, it let's you control your flash power output manually and ttl flash compensation with dial without digging deep into the menus! Before the AC3 came out, the only way to archived manual flash control is through mounting a 580exii and now with thismy setup is just so much lighter and efficient, i am loving it!

Lighting: the subject is sitting on an IPAD with the circular pattern on screen and 430exii@ 1/4 power into Lumiquest Softbox III on top and slightly behind the subject, trigger with PW Minitt1 and Flextt5.

Just playing around with a circular polarizer. As you can see, the polarizer gets rid of the haze and makes a much more blue sky, creating greater contrast with the clouds.
