Been wanting to have a Circular Slide Rule for some time - also wanting to make one for fun (and ideas)
Saw some good ideas at www.sliderulemuseum.com and decided to procrastinate a bit tonight.
Printed scales in full size sticky paper I use for labels
Cut them out with an x-acto knife
Fixed scale was stuck right to the CD case. Moving scale was stuck to card stock (file divider).
Managed to "somehow" misalign them and created a new center using more sticky paper on the back.
Cursor made from clear top piece from a stack of blank DVD's. Scribed a line with the knife (aligned across the scales for correct angle) and packed the scribe with Blue Crayon.
Very much a fun project!
The shot from under a circular floor grate. Reminds me of the moon (it even has a crescent shape to the shadow). Another in my "looks like something it's not" shots.

Stained Glass Window, Reason Cathedral, Glenn Lodge, Idaho. Crafted by Hubert H. Humphreys, noted Florentine glass master, the stained glass window above the alter in the world's only atheist cathedral draws thousands of tourists and pilgrims each year. Hidden within the design of the window are over forty mathematical equations and numbers (including pi, e, and the square root of minus one). The window was removed from the cathedral briefly during the 1950's when the church was attacked by a mob of militant Unitarians. early morning, walking down George Street, suddenly finding myself here drenched in light and familiar sights.
I saw this done in N-Photo magazine and decided to try it with a CD case.
I had a blank white screen on my monitor, leaned the CD case against it and fitted a circular polarising filter to my camera. This was the result and I just love the colours.

Plaster Creek runs through Ken-O-Sha Park in Grand Rapids. The creek twists and turns through the park as it makes its way to the Grand River. A long exposure shows the water's foam collecting in a little pool in the bend of the creek.
Shafi takes inspiration from Sufi mysticism in Islam and her works encourage contemplation. Meditative repetition plays a part in traditional craft practices in the Islamic world.
Made up of 22,500 and 26,000 strips of paper, each scroll is marked with printed and hand written Farsi (Persian) text then tightly rolled into concentric circles, concealing or revealing different elements of the text (most of which is a hidden depth of mystic knowledge at the heart of the coil). The circles also suggest the ritual whirling dances.
In this work the circular constraint and the slightly domed surface suggests a exuberant joyous expansion.
I like the exuberance of the coloured coils, like rolled-paper beads, whose close-packing recalls the finest St Louis glass millefiori paperweights and 1960s fabrics.
Large circular roadways around Parliament House in Canberra. The whole city is known for it's roundabouts. Capital Circuit is a one way circular road that effectively feeds to the southern regions on Canberra - Woden, Tuggeranong and Weston. Most of Canberra is blessed with large areas of natural woodlands and bush, as the entire city has been planned since its inception in 1913.
