The half eagles from the Civil War era are all very rare (with the exception of the 1861) due to low original mintage figures and low survival rates. There are probably no more than 60-70 known with most in the EF40 to AU50 range. Unlike its rarer and better known cousin the 1864-S, the 1864 Philadelphia is very affordable and, at least in my opinion, very undervalued as well. It would be hard to imagine a better combination of historic significance and numismatic rarity in one tidy package.
