On this day in mid-February, the air temperature hovered near 58°F. In twenty-four hours, the temperature would drop to 22°F. Despite the rapidly dropping temperatures, the ice was gone. The most captivating thing about this was the sound the ice was making as it moved...it sounded like the most amazing chimes. So peaceful, so captivating.
The ice washing up against the shore sounded exactly like wind chimes today :) Hard to believe it's December 13th and the lake is still open!
I have several "harmony ball" necklaces (which I recently learned are also called Druid bells), but this is one of my favorites, because the bell is completely loose - no bail or anything - and lives inside the turtle shell. I've put in a little paper padding to keep it from rattling all of the time, but I can take it out and play with it when I want to hear it jingle. :D
The bell itself is about 0.75" in diameter.
