Our new friends wanted to get in front of the wings, too - so got a great shot right in front of our 1950 Chevy 3100 panel van. Keep smilin, guys!
It really was America in the 50's today at my local garage, as not one, but two of the local 1950's American cars showed up on the forecourt, both immaculately kept and fabulously preserved both inside and out.
The first was a 1962 Ford Thunderbird, sporting the flared rear end and lavished wheel to roof in glistening chrome, a true motor for the discerning road-goer of the rock n' roll era.
The second was from the other side of the American motoring market, rugged practicality, and that was summed up in the 1950's by the Chevy Advanced Design. This particular model being a 1951 Chevy 3100 (½-ton).

This yellow Chevrolet 3100 van, advertising The Fireplace Center & Patio Shop, was parked next to the Carling Avenue entrance of the Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre in the Lincoln Heights neighbourhood in western Ottawa.
I photographed this van on the same Saturday in June that I photographed the Ferraris in motion during the 2009 Ferrari Festival. I was actually on my way to the Lincoln-Fields Wal-Mart to drop off for developing the five rolls of colour film that I had shot of the Ferraris, and seeing this late 1940's American classic was a nice little bonus touch.
From Matchbox I bought most of my Matchbox 1/43's at KB toys about 10-15 years ago when they were selling them for 5-6 dollars each and They are very well made for the price.
The owner of this truck told us that people keep asking him when he's going to paint it. He said it doesn't need a paint job. The one it got in 1949 is just fine. I tend to agree.
