Juvenile Brown-chested Martin (Progne tapera fusca) at Cumberland Farms, Plymouth County, MA on 12 Oct 2009. Jeremiah Trimble, Matt Garvey, and I were thrilled to find this bird feeding over fallow fields with 5 other species of swallows. Jeremiah and others got much better photos--these are my best contributions.

(Prinia flavicans)
The black-chested prinia (Prinia flavicans) is a species of bird in the Cisticolidae family. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitat is dry savanna.
The nest is built by both sexes in roughly 11-12 days, consisting of a thin-walled oval or pear-shape with a side-top entrance, built of woven green grass which eventually become dry and pale brown. It is typically placed about 1 metre above ground in the stems of a bush, shrub, thorny tree or sapling, or occasionally a clump of tall grass.
Egg-laying season is year-round, peaking from September-April. It may breed opportunistically after rainfall in Winter, while it is still in non-breeding plumage.
It lays 2-6 eggs, which are incubated for about 12-15 days.
The chicks are fed by both parents, leaving the nest after about 11-15 days.

So sick. Whenever I get sick it travels into my chest. Nothing new, but I hate it every time.

This "Chinese chest" was one of the items in their collection. I've had it since the 1960s, and it's the only property I have that my daughter has expressly requested from me. I know nothing of its history, other than from 1930.
