Chengdu Airport

plane to Hangzhou

December-2015

One of the perqs of being a university professor is that I occasionally get to travel to exciting places. I just got back from a trip to Chengdu, China. This was my first trip to China, and it was quite an experience. I'll be posting a few of the pictures from my trip in the upcoming days.

Chengdu is not really a tourist destination, so the photos I took were mainly just those of everyday life in the streets of Chengdu. I quickly discovered that the most interesting places were on the small side streets and alley ways, which is where I met this gentleman. Most of the people I met were quite shy of the camera, but this fellow was very open, and I managed to get several shots of him smoking his pipe. He and his buddies had a good laugh afterwords.

I don't speak a word of Chinese...the only word I learned how to say was "thank you".

3rd time the charm, re-upload.

Entirely new interior structure and landing gear, much more happy compared with the old design.

Chengdu - Jinli street - Sichuan - China

Jinli Ancient Street (锦里) is 350 meters long and is located next to Wuhou Temple and is a must-see location in Chengdu, China. It was rebuilt in 2004 from a dynastic-era street in ancient China. Now, it's a touristic location with many shops, snacks and an Opera. For photographers, it's a condensed aera of traditional chinese culture and must be on your spots-list in Chengdu (even if it's sometimes really crowdy...). The entry is free except during special events (like the lantern festival).

Chengdu – 成都 // close to Wenshuyuan

This was the view from our hotel room during our visit to Chengdu, China. At 7,517 miles away from New York City, this is the farthest away from home that I've ever been.

If you want to visit Chengdu, and think you would enjoy this view, book yourself at the Holiday Inn Chengdu Oriental Plaza, located at 231 Zhiquanduan, East Avenue, Jinjiang District, Chengdu. I found this hotel to be quite comfortable and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Chengdu has implemented extensive greening initiatives that include planting trees, shrubs, and flowers along streets and avenues to enhance aesthetic appeal and improve air quality. These efforts also involve creating green belts, pocket parks, and rooftop gardens, which provide recreational spaces for residents and help mitigate urban heat island effects.

Bamboo just outside the Chengdu Panda Research Base in Chengdu, China.

The entire Research Base was densely populated by bamboo, I found it interesting to see this bunch of lonely bamboo at the rear of the main building.

This image was captured at the end of our visit to the Panda base, the back door to the Panda Museum is just to the right of these bamboo.

I didn't even notice the snail until I looked at the image when we got back to Canada.

Chengdu, China - 2015

Chengdu is very hip and modern with plenty of art and culture. Taken in the preserved Ancient Town where there are markets selling all sorts of items

China's Sichuan Province is the home territory of the giant panda and several of the animals can be seen in the Panda House at the Chengdu Zoo.
