Kabibi lives on an island in Ibo District. She is a mother of four, is pregnant with her fifth and is receiving antenatal care from Nurse Eugenia. The mobile brigade travels to Kabibi and other expectant and new mothers in Ibo using the UNFPA-supported boat ambulance. She is unable to afford travel costs to a nearby island for antenatal appointments, so is grateful for the services provided by the Mobile Brigade.
Eugenia Maria Dias, a nurse who is part of the Mobile Brigade and uses the UNFPA-supported boat ambulance to reach new and expectant mothers on islands in Ibo District where she provides antenatal and SMI (saúde materno-infantil/Mother and Child) consultations.
The UNFPA-supported boat ambulance is run by the government of Mozambique and operates out of Ibo District, in the conflict-affected province of Cabo Delgado. The boat, captained by Amisse, carries medical staff like Nurse Eugenia to communities on remote islands, where services including ante-and postnatal care can be carried out. The boat can also transfer patients to the provincial hospital for life-saving treatment. Since the start of 2022, more than 15,000 people from islands in Ibo in Cabo Delgado have received support from the mobile brigades. The boat service enabled 73 surgeries in the second half of 2022.
This mobile support is critical as many health centres have been damaged or have reduced capacity due to worsening violence and insecurity in the north of Mozambique.
These boats are part of UNFPA projects, funded by the UK Government and the Government of Japan.

I took Zero to the vet yesterday for his annual checkup. I was so proud of him; his behavior was excellent. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the vet. I started going to this animal hospital because I used to have a German Shepherd, and one of the vets there (Dr. Bebee) is a renowned regional expert on German Shepherds. The dodo vet we got yesterday doesn't even seem to like dogs. We have to go back next weekend because she was unable to draw a blood sample. No problem, I'd love to come back next weekend to spend another hour in your waiting room. Perfect.
Today Ben had his 1 year checkup. His new stats: exactly 20 lbs., 29.25 inches long, still has a giant head. He did pretty well with his shots, but later he was kind of fussy, which is unusual for him. But he might have just been too tired. It's hard to tell. So he goes back in 3 months, but I hope we'll be able to see Dr. Leo by then. Dr. Patel will be gone by then, anyway, on maternity leave (lucky dog!). Also I want to mention that while we were in the waiting room, Ben walked over to a toy and started playing with it and with this other kid. I was so glad that he wasn't too scared to walk away from us. Go Ben!

Jack's eight month checkup was this afternoon...I always clear my schedule when he has a checkup...sure, I want to see the results of his growth from the last visit to our pediatrician and of course I want to know he is healthy. But selfishly I love going to the pediatricians office because I get great lighting with my off camera flash in the examining room. I have tons f shots from today and past visits. Shots from past visits can be seen in my "Project 365 Jack" set.

Rowan saw the specialist for a checkup yesterday and was very sleepy after it. Unlike Emma, she hates going to the doctor and it stresses her out.
We were very happy to hear that her organs are not being affected by her heart meds. Her blood pressure is great and everything else looks wonderful. Considering her illness, she's doing really well and we're thankful for every moment we can spend with her. The only thing we've noticed is that her energy level has been pretty low, which is normal for her condition. We treat her like she's a senior dog now as far as activity goes, even though she's only 6. :(
She doesn't have to go for another recheck for 5 more weeks, which is much better than the 2 to 3 week checks we've been having.
