Worked at home this morning - joined a couple of CRM web meetings - then went for my annual eye checkup at Lewisham hospital this afternoon. They used the pupil-dilating drops on me again, and once again the world was in glorious technicolour when I came out (funny how the weather always cranks up the colours ready for my enhanced trippivision when I come out of these appointments).

Anyway, good news, they think they've checked me over enough times, and I have been discharged. (I've got a freckly thing behind my eyeball - they wanted to monitor it for a few years to make sure there was no change - and there hasn't been.)

Popped into a couple of shops on my way back through Lewisham, then, after a bit of a wait for the train, had a trippy walk home from the station, with all the streetlights looking like I'd done a long exposure at f22.

Not feeling great again today - bit fluey-limbed, so looking forward to a good soak in the bath before bed :)

Straight after work today I was into the dentist for a check up and then a polish up from the hygienist.

Blessedly all was well, but as photo of the day you've got the controls of Mike's Belmont dental chair.

I can vouch for the fact that it is really comfortable!

Today also brought the start of the exam season. More on that in the days to come, I'm sure. :|

#Anxiety has become a huge problem in our society today, and honestly, this is something that not a lot of people have been talking about. Anxiety is a major reason that people seek out the use of #medical #marijuana.

Why is that? Well, a lot of it is due to the fact that there are not a lot of good options for treating anxiety at the moment. #Therapy and #medications are available for some people that can afford it or have it covered by insurance, but medications for anxiety can be hit or miss at times. Personally, I think that therapy is probably the best sort of treatment for dealing with symptoms of anxiety, especially if you consider yourself having an actual anxiety disorder.

The difference between an anxiety disorder and regular anxiety is not always understood by people in our society. Regular anxiety is something that everyone deals with from time to time and is considered a normal human emotion. We can face anxiety about different situations at work, school, in our home life, or with finances. Anxiety disorders are different from regular anxiety.

Disorders like generalized anxiety, social anxiety, #PTSD, and others make it so that the patient suffers from severe anxiety from unknown and even non-existent causes. Sometimes people can have panic attacks about something that is not even a normal trigger for other people. With anxiety disorders on the rise in the United States, I think that it is important for us to have alternative treatment options like medical marijuana.

Anti anxiety medications, as I mentioned earlier, can have some pretty adverse side effects and sometimes leave a patient feeling worse off than they were without it. Today, I wanted to take some time to talk about different types of marijuana strains that are good for people with anxiety disorders. Certain types of marijuana can be great for relieving symptoms of anxiety, especially if you feel that other medications are not doing the trick.

Something that is important to keep in mind about using cannabis to treat anxiety is that you need to make sure you use the right strain. There are so many different types of strains available, and each one is unique in its own way. Certain strains are better than others when it comes to relieving anxiety and stress. Some strains can actually make these symptoms worse, and those are ones that you want to avoid if at all possible.

Either way, here are some of the best strains for dealing with anxiety. The first strain that I want to talk about today is called Amnesia Haze. This strain sounds very powerful by its name, and it definitely lives up to it. This strain is very popular among the medical marijuana community due to how potent and heavy hitting it is.

This particular strain is a sativa dominant #hybrid #strain that will help you to feel more energized while also keeping you very relaxed and calmed. Keep in mind that this strain has a very high #THC content, which means that it is more suitable for experienced marijuana users. Also, Amnesia Haze has a very unique, distinctive citrus fragrance that will help you to mellow out while still enjoying your night in. This is a great strain for relieving symptoms of anxiety.

Another great strain for treating anxiety disorders is called #Northern #Lights. I talk about this #strain a lot in my posts, and that is because of how wildly popular it is. This strain is best known for its #euphoric #effects that also promote peaceful and relaxing highs. This strain is super common among medical marijuana users for treating conditions such as #insomnia, pain, and of course, anxiety.

When we took Orson to the vet for post-op checkup we found that his leg is healing however the incision in his hip where they took the fatty tissue from is infected. Doc said he needed to put a drain in and normally that is something done under sedation. He decided to give him a numbing shot and try putting the drain in while he was awake and you just wouldn't believe how good this dog is. He stood there on the exam table with his head in the crook of my arm, the vet tech steadied him and Doc was able to install the drain. Orson even kept wagging his tail just a little through the whole procedure, totally amazing. He needs an Elizabethan collar to keep the drain area out of trouble and we still had this inflatable one from Mr. Nixon, only problem is that within 10 minutes of putting it on him it was deflated from them playing. Since this photo I have stuffed the collar with poly fiberfill which is still light weight and not deflateable. Wednesday the drain comes out and hopefully all will be much better then. Here you see him and Little Bit having a "chewie" which they love. Oh yes Orson has gained 10 pounds in the month that we have had him and is looking good:)

Healthy eyes and good vision play a vital role in your child’s learning and development. Hence, it is important to have a vision screening done for your kids. The first eye checkup happens in birth by the pediatricians after which every well visit requires you doctor to check the baby’s eyes for any physical defect. Now, any of the following occurrence requires evaluation by the eye specialist that is - high risk newborns like premature babies, those with the family history of eye problems, babies who do not track well after 3 months, excessive tearing – it could mean a blocked tear duct, crusting and redness of the eyelid or recurring discharge could indicate that there is an infection. Any abnormal movement of one or both eyes in a particular direction could mean that there is a weakness of the eye muscles. A white pupil on an examination could mean eye cancer, a bulging eyes with increased sensitivity to light could mean there is increased eye pressure and children who have difficulty reading from a distance or close by definitely need to go see the eye doctor. The aim of regular eye checkups is to detect any problems with vision early, so that it doesn’t interfere with the learning and to prevent any permanent damage from underline eye conditions. Now, at the age of 3 ½ years, your child should have an eye exam and visual acuity test that is test for detecting the vision sharpness. This is performed by sometimes pediatricians itself or by the ophthalmologist, who is the eye specialist. The next healthy eye checkup should be at the age of the 5. There after checkups must be done every other year or every year if the child is wearing glasses. Okay, what can we do for kids to keep their eyes healthy when they are spending time in front of the computer? Kids should keep the computer at 10-15 degree angle below eye level and sit in a good posture with the feet on the floor, elbows rested on the desk and the back and the neck aligned properly. Keep the screen clean and dust free. The laptop should be 20-24 inches away from the eyes. They need to take a 20 second break every 20 minutes and a 10 minute break every hour. The surrounding light should be slightly dimmer than the computer screen light. Now, any child exhibiting signs of eyestrain such as irritated and painful eyes, dry or watery eyes, difficulty focusing or having headache should go and see the eye specialist.

Hoisted to the rafters, our little car undergoes its scheduled maintenance. I thought it looked rather vulnerable up there with its soft underbelly exposed.

we're only days away from odin's 9 month birthday, which means it's time more his regularly scheduled 9 month checkup and his final rsv shot!

now, you might remember that his rsv shots are typically at the beginning of the month, but this one is on the last day of month and not even a full 30 days after his last shot ( it's usually best to separate the shots by almost exactly 30 days ). perhaps a random scheduling error? nope. medicaid will not reimburse for rsv shots given in april because it's the tail end of rsv season and their number crunchers have determined that it's more cost effective to pony up for the hospital bills of the kids that get rsv then it is to get everyone innoculated. so, cleverly, most pediatricians simply schedule an extra shot on the last day of the month.

but in much bigger [ ahem! ] news, you might have noticed that odin has gained almost a pound and a half since his last rsv shot! in less than a month! he's now just shy of 15 pounds.

some readers may be chuckling quietly to themselves, given the degree of hand wringing we engaged in after his developmental assessment when we learned that he might not have gained any weight at all. and we'll now fess up to the fact that after the appointment we started feeding odin a bottle of neosure a day, when we noticed that his diapers weren't as wet as we remembered; of course, we immediately jumped to the conclusion we were starving odin and lousy parents to boot for not noticing sooner that his diapers weren't sopping wet. hence the interim step of replacing one of his meals with formula, at least until we could talk more at length with the pediatrician.

i can only imagine what the pediatrician was thinking as he was forced to listen to us;

"and he hadn't gained any weight in two weeks and the developmental assessor thought he might need to be eating longer to get the "full course" and his diapers aren't sopping wet so surely we must have been starving him so now he's getting a bit of formula. because, well, starving him his not a good thing."

without nearly a hint of the patronizing tone that should have affected his voice, he proceeded to tell us that, in fact, after 3 or 4 months the wetness of a diaper is not a reliable indicator of how much nutrition a child is receiving; and that it's probably important to note that his last developmental assessment was performed by the person in charge of therapy for eating disorder in children born premature so she's constantly surrounded by the worst case scenarios and people tend to leave her assessments concerned about eating issues; and that sometimes kids just don't gain any weight and then they do; and while he didn't think the bottle of formula was doing any harm, he didn't think it was doing much good either, as it certainly wasn't responsible for his weight gain over the month.

pretty much, without actually doing it, he was shaking us by the shoulders, telling us to get ahold of ourselves.

heh.

and no, although it may look like it, odin is not sticking his fingers in his mouth and whistling at the nurse while he's being weighed.

and completely unrelatedly. hello to all you googlers coming to find useful information on rsv. i know that i'm clogging up the search results for rsv shot, but i'm not really sure that i'm the authoritative source to best answer your questions :-)

Had my yearly checkup today, I've been monitored for low tension glaucoma. I don't actually have it, but I have strange cupping in my optic nerve, and they just like to make sure everything is okay.

And everything is okay.

I took two shots in the office, and this is the better of the two, but I must have moved. It's fitting though, because those drops they use to dilate your eyes make everything just a little bit strange...

Week 17

Evelyn is going to have her 4 months well checkup with the doctor this Thursday (that's how they say it now a day. It's not a physical, it's not a doctor's visit, it's a well checkup). To be exact, Evelyn turned 4 months old last Friday. It's funny how I see her everyday but I am still amazed at how much and how fast she's grown. When I first decided to take on this project, I had a lot of reservations. What if miss a week? What if I am too busy? And what if I have to travel for work? We are now at week 17 and I am so very happy about this project.

Having to record my daughter's progress weekly, I definitely pay more attention to the changes that she goes through and obviously can recall exactly what week certain Evelyn milestones took place. If asked, I can tell anyone exactly how old Evelyn is in weeks, but it does take me a little time to calculate how old she is in months as my math is not that good (some of you may laugh, but mothers seem to always know how old their children are. Fathers? Not so good). It also allows me to work collaboratively with my wife; she complains weekly (that's what wives do I think), but I know she does enjoy helping me and enjoys seeing the end results. To that I thank my wife. :)

Blogging Evelyn's progress is definitely an unintended bonus as the project was only supposed to be about capturing her weekly photos, but I am even addicted to this blogging thing. Having a complete and cohesive blog is just as important as those weekly photos, and I have even delayed the posting of a photo if the accompanying blog is not finished. I know not everyone reads my blog, so I do appreciate and thank those who actually put up with my weekly ramblings. :)

PS: To keep Evelyn busy and entertained while she roams the floor, Evelyn's mommy got her a few colorful dangling animal friends. When Evelyn pulls, hits, or kicks at them, lights flash and musics play. This photo captures Evelyn as she's about to pounce on her new toy.

The American Dental Association recommends that you see your dentist at least twice each year for a dental checkup.

At your checkup, we will inspect your soft tissues for oral cancer, periodontal disease, and other problems. The dentist will also look at each tooth in your mouth to assess...

Finding affordable medical and dental insurance plans can be as difficult as it is necessary. But it doesn't have to be if you know where to get cheap insurance protection with top-rated companies.

Start Out With Regular Checkups

Your family's overall health hinges on everyone getting regular check-ups so that problems can be treated when they're small and less costly This is the first thing you can do to lower your expenses..

Look at Your Options

If your employer has health care insurance , participating in that policy is usually your cheapest option.

Alternatively, you may be self-employed or unemployed. Would that mean you have to give up on having inexpensive health insurance? Fortunately, the answer is no. You have still got some options available .

One option is to find a group that you can buy insurance through, such as a professional organization or a credit union. Like businesses, groups benefit from lower rates because the risk is spread out over more people.

Another choice would be to buy your own individual or family plan. Even though this option is often pricey, you'll be able to lower your costs in numerous ways.

Reducing Your Costs

Raise Your Co-Pay And Deductible

If you're healthy, don't suffer any kind of pre-existing conditions, and don't see your doctor that often, consider increasing your co-pay and deductible. Increasing the amount of your co-pay and deductible will drastically decrease the amount you spend for your premiums.

Purchase An HMO Or PPO

A great way to lower your costs will be to choose an HMO or a PPO plan. With one of these types of plans, you pay lower prices in exchange for picking a health care provider from a specified list.

Purchase a Major Medical Plan

The cheapest of the comprehensive health care plans is a Major Medical plan which takes care of your hospital bills, but will not pay for visits to your doctor or your prescription drugs.

Compare Rates

The best way to lower your costs would be to search for a policy from an insurance comparison site. On one of these kinds of websites, you fill out a simple form with information about yourself and your insurance needs. Once you submit the form, you'll get price quotes from multiple companies.

Using a comparison website, you can quickly and easily compare and contrast price quotes between several companies and opt for the least expensive plan that meets your needs. You'll get price quotes for traditional health plans as well as HMOs, PPOs, and Major Medical plans

It only takes a few moments of your time to get your price quotes, it's free, and, believe me, the time you spend will be well worth your while.

Check out lowerratequotes.com/health-insurance.html to compare health insurance quotes and get the cheapest rate with A-rated companies.

Can Reduced Testosterone Lead to Sleep Problems?

While difficulty sleeping is common for many, and even normal at times, chronic insomnia can be an indication of deeper, more serious issues. When this becomes your norm, a checkup with a trusted licensed physician should be made a priority.

When hormone levels are disrupted, it can wreak havoc on sleep patterns and other systems within the body. Depending upon the cause of your sleep deprivation, low testosterone replacement therapy and hormone monitoring can work wonders on ensuring improved sleep and greater overall health.

Our internal clock, or circadian rhythm, is responsible for the regulation of wakefulness and sleep. Existing in the hypothalamus, this rhythm helps the body to control heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and hormone release. All of these functions are essential to health, meaning that a problem can have a number of unwanted side effects.

What is the Importance of Sleep?

Our organs are constantly working to ensure our body is operating as it should. During sleep, our brain secretes essential hormones that trigger the restoration and regeneration of our organs and systems. From our heart muscles to our lungs and liver, virtually every organ in our body depends upon sleep in order to maintain health and optimal function. Not only this, but the body uses this time to produce testosterone as well.

Unfortunately, as men age, sleep can often be more difficult to attain, meaning that normal sleep cycles are not as frequent. This can lead to a whole host of problems if not addressed. Poor digestion, respiratory issues, irritability, heart disease, weight gain, low libido, and high blood pressure are just some of the many repercussions of disturbed sleep.

While aging is inevitable, being subject to unwanted side effects doesn't have to be. With Dr. Berman, patients of all ages can attain the guidance and care they need to experience renewed life with the help of hormone replacement therapy as well as diet and lifestyle-related guidance.

Schedule a Consultation

Dr. Mikhail Berman is a trusted and respected physician with over 30 years of experience helping patients who are dealing with sleep problems and other symptoms caused by hormonal deficiencies and issues.

When plagued with a lack of sleep, hormone imbalances are largely inevitable. Since sleep is required to regenerate muscles and organ function, a lack thereof can have detrimental effects on hormone levels and other aspects of the body. With the help of a testosterone specialist like Dr. Berman, male patients can experience renewed testosterone levels so that bones and muscles can be rebuilt and remain strong.

Since testosterone is so crucial to metabolism as well, improved sleep and subsequent optimal levels of the hormone can mean a better functioning metabolism and a healthier weight. Whether you're dealing with more well-known signs of low testosterone, such as decreased libido and erectile dysfunction, or with insomnia that you can't seem to get rid of, know that you're not alone. Dr. Mikhail Berman, a licensed and highly skilled doctor is at your service.

To learn more about sleep and its correlation to testosterone levels and overall health, give our practice a call today at (561) 841-1837 to schedule a consultation.

LOLA Day 23

August 29, 2014

Yearly check up today. While waiting akwardly on the thin piece or paper in just your undies and a thin blue robe thing what else is there to do? Take a bunch of selfies and hope the doctor doesn't walk in during the middle of it. All is good, I am healthy and didn't get caught taking selfies, lol. Oh and I have a bone bruise on my leg/knee from falling on my face day 3.

Your health is something that you need to be responsible for. Your physical and mental health with dictate the rest of your life. If you don't take care of you first, how will you be able to help others. It's the typical airplane emergency procedures. Put your mask on first then help others.

Quotes for today:

*You will never achieve what you are capable of if you’re too attached to things you’re supposed to let go of.

*Never force anything. Give it your best shot, and then let it be. If it’s meant to be, it will be. Don’t hold yourself down with things you can’t control.

* Giving up and moving on are two very different things.
