Why are sea lions teeth black?

Sea lions teeth are black or dark brown. Sea lions do not have enamel on their teeth like us. Instead, they have a natural bacteria that builds up when they are young and helps protect the teeth.

Symbiotically, the bacteria living in their mouths cleanse their mouths and the sea lion provides them with an environment to live in.

I guess that the main reason God gave me life was to be here for them.

Fortunately, yesterday's visit to the veterinary clinic was to check up on these little sweeties and their mother, recently found on a construction site. I can't afford any addition to the pack (already taken a month ago nb.36, an adorable cat with wolf mouth disease), so talked to a friend, who talked to a friend, etc., and first found them forever homes, they'll stay with me for only two months until all their deworming and vaccination schemes will be completed.

I present you the adorable Luna (Moon).

Her's brother, Boss, and Lilly, their mother, in the days to follow.

Have a warm and lovely weekend, dear friends!

"Hi there !!!

Yip, it's me again….brand new ……

And I'm feeling good !!!

Had such a great time last night, you too?

I will be visiting 'Dr. Wizard' and 'Mrs. Witch' at their secret home planet to thank them and for my first check-up …

So by, by for now and enjoy your life….."

My Robin looks for something good..

Taking the dogs to the vets soon so I’m in a rush to post this photo I did last night. It’s only the dogs annual check up but it’s starting to be a thing. They are both getting on now with Toby 16 and Oscar 13 and they are starting show their age. It was worth waiting for a bit of light on this holly bush on a recent ascent before and carried on panting to the top, I needed a breather anyway.

This is our persian cat Rosie.

Totally relaxed after been to the vet for a check up.

Getting excited for monsoon season again. Time to take that jeep in for her annual check up. I wonder how many times I'll get stuck this year. Maybe another 11 mile hike in the desert? Or perhaps dime sized hail that feels like it might break your windshield? Adventure awaits.

Yesterday Bastian had his annual check up and vaccination. Our vet likes him a lot, but advised to cut down on the food. Bastian did not agree... ;)

That time of year is coming round again for Jonathans check up..

I take photos to keep my mind engaged :)

Eva running around this beautiful maze made of amazing glasses that changes color every few seconds. She knew she would get lost if she roamed around on her own as she had a few scares when she couldn't see me but that did not stop her from running around but she was careful not to miss me as she would take a peek after every turn to make sure am right behind her and not lost in photography. I captured this as she made the next turn knowing full well her eyes will look for me :)

BLUTI'S SECOND LIFE FASHION BLOG

A couple of months ago, we decided to take Lucky and Lara out to the mountain. As I was driving in a very remote area I saw a little dog walking on her own in the middle of the road. She seemed very tired! I stopped the car and I called her to come to me. She came and it was like she knew me for ever. I gave her water to drink and I was not going to leave her there no matter what! We took her home and after contacting the police (just in case somebody had reported her missing) and a check up in the vet's, we decided that the little dog was about to become the latest member of our family. We named her Tina.

Days went by and Tina was very happy with us. In no time she got on with Lucky & Lara and everything was just fine.

The thing is though Tina had a little secret that we found out on April the 2nd... She gave birth to two beautiful little puppies. The one is a male and the other a female.

Tina and the puppies are doing very well! They get all our love and attention and no matter what we will make sure that the puppies will have the best life possible even if that means that they will have to stay with us!

In this photograph is Tina with her daughter and it was taken on April the 4th.

All is well. Alfie has a monthly injection to relieve his arthritis symptoms so he had that and a little check up at the same time. He was a very good boy as always ❤️ The vet commented on how good he looks, and how lovely his coat is. He is a very plushy boy ❤️ She remembers him when he was brought in as a dirty, hissy stray in 2022, covered in Ticks and terrified, poor lad. He's like a different cat now, he's so sweet and gentle ❤️

Part of the 52 Weeks of 2016

Week 27

Tabletop Photography

This week's challenge was to shoot something on a tabletop, ie product photography. Since I'd done the high-key white background style 2 weeks ago, I decided to try the black background, reflective surface style here. But there was no reason I couldn't have a little fun with it. So out came the Lego figures.

It's also a small farewell to my 60D which went onwards to it's new owner the day after shooting this.

Time for my annual physical. I have been cared for by Dr. G since I was around 20, I was a patient in one of his first years of practice and we have grown older together. I explained that I am working on a photo project, I told my Dr. I was going to set up my tripod to take a photo while I was waiting for him. He seemed surprised but didn't have a problem with it. When it was time for the breast exam and the nurse had to return to the room she was very uncomfortable with my camera being there and was surprised and confused at why I would want to take pictures there of all places. We all got a good laugh and she just shook her head when I left saying she'll never forget me. What a nice compliment!

(PS - I got lucky that the sun was hitting the exam table, light is key!)

I went out for a walk on the moors with my son this afternoon and managed a few grab shots of a Cuckoo. This was only my second Cuckoo of the year as they seem to be thin on the ground. The female Cuckoo lays her eggs in other birds' nests leaving the parasitized host to do all the incubation and chick-rearing. But worse than that, the young Cuckoo turfs out any step siblings from the nest to ensure it gets the undivided attention of the unwitting foster parents. And as for the father Cuckoo, well mating is about his only contribution to the process. Incidentally, it was Edward Jenner who first reported that newly-hatched Cuckoos ejected any unhatched eggs or young chicks from the nest in 1788. It was Jenner who eight years later discovered vaccination against the deadly disease Smallpox by using serum from Cowpox victims. Cowpox was a milder, non-lethal disease that helped the body build up an immunity against the deadly Smallpox. Anyway, back to Cuckoos, most people believed it was the parent Cuckoos that removed the nest contents, probably because the female Cuckoo removes one egg from the host immediately prior to laying her own. But Jenner noticed that young Cuckoos had a depression in their backs that was used to heave eggs (or young chicks) out of the nest. Jenner received ridicule at the time from the likes of Charles Waterton, and the idea remained contentious for more than a hundred years. It was only really put to bed in the twentieth century when Eric Hosking photographed a young Cuckoo in the act of ejecting eggs.

Many birds lay their eggs in other birds' nests. This includes birds egg-dumping in an unattended nest of their own species to Ostriches, where several females lay in one nest for the father to incubate. But there are also lots of brood parasites apart from many species of Cuckoo. American Cowbirds are obligate brood parasites in that they never incubate themselves. But their youngster doesn't eject its step siblings either, but lives happily alongside. But the parent Cowbirds check up on the nests where they have laid an egg, and if the Cowbird egg has been rejected, the adult Cowbird will wreck the nest, then will re-lay once the hosts have rebuilt. Tactics worthy of the Mafia.

I thought myself for untouched by almost one of the heaviest illnesses..

so I did not go regularly for having a check-up etc.

and after an ultra-sound test I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

At this time I am recovering from a surgery which is following with

radiation, chemotherapy and so on ...

I thank all my family and friends for their support

(thank you Vasili, Vanessa, Bianca, Niko!!)))..

And a big "thank you" to all the medical staff for their prompt and professional help!!

Thank you dear Flickr-friends for remembering me!!!
