This was the first owlet we found when we went to check up on the family of seven to see if Basket Baby was doing OK. (See previous post for more on this story if you missed it).
The others went on to find the rest of the family, but I couldn't help but stop and capture this beauty first.
We were at the end of a very warm spell for May on this day, and a little later in the evening, a large dead branch from higher in this owlet's roost tree, broke and fell, narrowly missing the owlet by a mere 2".
Five minutes later another branch fell from a tree I was near, and missed my camera gear by 2 1/2'! I looked up expecting to see a squirrel, or such, but it was just the result of a tinder dry, old growth forest.
It is unusual for Great Horned Owls to have a clutch size of 5, but it isn't unheard of. I consider myself blessed to have met such a large family, albeit ever so briefly.

Why are sea lions teeth black?
Sea lions teeth are black or dark brown. Sea lions do not have enamel on their teeth like us. Instead, they have a natural bacteria that builds up when they are young and helps protect the teeth.
Symbiotically, the bacteria living in their mouths cleanse their mouths and the sea lion provides them with an environment to live in.

Some of you may know, I went for an xray check up yesterday. I thought I have green light, but turn out to be a yellow light :)
There's a HAIR LINE gap in my femur joint.. So, what's that mean? I'm taking 4 more weeks off...What a bummer :((
I was pretty lazy to check up on my flickr, but I'll try to post and interact here more again. :D
I even have plenty of new pics from different markets.. so there will come a few new posts.. :D
I went to check up on the piping plovers today and they are doing well! The chick has grown since last week and here it is flapping its little wings! Piping plovers are on the threatened species list!

Yesterday we all drove to Traverse City for Dave’s 6 week post op doctor check up for his knee replacement. Everything is coming along good. We stopped near Elk Rapids (Birch Lake) and had take out lunch.

Getting excited for monsoon season again. Time to take that jeep in for her annual check up. I wonder how many times I'll get stuck this year. Maybe another 11 mile hike in the desert? Or perhaps dime sized hail that feels like it might break your windshield? Adventure awaits.
Sethi spends the day on the sofa. Outside it's very windy and the weather seems to change every few minutes. Better to stay at home and do what cats do best. :)
Fynn is quite okay. After yesterday's dental surgery he is tired and sleeps a lot but the bleeding of the wounds has stopped. He is still drooling heavily but eats well and it doesn't seem to be too painful for him. The vet appointment for a check-up is next Monday provided that everything stays stable.

It's meant to be sunny today but at the moment it's raining so I'll have to go food shopping first thing till the sun appears. I'm hoping to see young adders that should be born this week, Ive managed to find where a few large females are so it's just a. question of checking up on them and hoping there'll be some young. Yesterday Bastian had his annual check up and vaccination. Our vet likes him a lot, but advised to cut down on the food. Bastian did not agree... ;)

Vet visit for these two today, check up etc and Evie has a small lump on lower eyelid which I wanted checking out, nothing sinister, wart type thing and leave alone unless it grows.
Olive was mental, think The Pointer Sisters song "I'm so exited" lol. Nothing as bad as a spaniel waiting nearby, zoomies and spinning like a loon 😂
Weighed in at 6.7kg for Olive and 24.kg for Evie, she's lost a few pounds since Olive arrived 😂 both fit and healthy 😊
They got treats off reception staff and came home 😊
Eva running around this beautiful maze made of amazing glasses that changes color every few seconds. She knew she would get lost if she roamed around on her own as she had a few scares when she couldn't see me but that did not stop her from running around but she was careful not to miss me as she would take a peek after every turn to make sure am right behind her and not lost in photography. I captured this as she made the next turn knowing full well her eyes will look for me :)
I'm flying to Michigan tomorrow to spend a fun weekend with my Flickr Sistah - Amy McGibbon.

Harbie has had his annual check up and vaccinations at the vet. I expected it to be a challenging visit and it was a bit, but luckily there weren't any other dogs there for him to bark at! I had warned the receptionist he was reactive to other dogs and she made sure he was the last appointment on a day that Tim could help me take him there. He did yelp when the vet did his vaccination but Harbie forgave him immediately and jumped up as if to say, "I still love you!" He's put on weight since last year but that's probably due to the positive reinforcement training we've been doing with him - we'll just have to keep an eye on things!!
